Message from Peter PienaarGo soaring with SunSwopMessage From Peter Pienaar,General Manager: SunSwopTime has flown by in an eyeblink, and it’s hardto believe that – quite wonderfully – SunSwopis now entering its third year of activeoperation. Along with the support of our globalexchange partner Interval International, welaunched at short notice in February 2009. Itwas a sweltering summer in South Africa, butour London-based call centre happened to becompletely snowbound at the time, meaningthat no one could get inside the offices to takethe calls that were already streaming in on theday we opened for business.Since then we have vaulted from strength tostrength, and today SunSwop is a credible andreliable vacation-exchange provider that offersa range of sterling services to our members. Allalong our mission has been firmly to establishourselves as a top-quality, independent organisationthat is exclusively available for thebenefit of timeshare owners at Southern SunLifestyle Resorts – and our transaction statisticsshow that we are well on track in cateringto the needs of South Africa’s blue-chip timesharecommunity.More and more people are depositing theirSouthern Sun timeshare with us for safekeepinguntil later use. Our deposits as at December2010 showed an increase of 28% on those for2009. But even more encouraging has been thegrowth in the number of holiday exchangeswe’ve facilitated – simply put, we’re now doing65% more exchanges than in our first year oftrade. Most tellingly of all, the majority of ourexchanges (almost 90%) are done back intoSouthern Sun Lifestyle Resorts, either becauseowners are exchanging from one of our resortsinto another or because they are going back totheir home resorts at a time of the year that’smore convenient for them. This underscores just how desirable andhighly regarded our timeshare properties are.It also re-emphasises the wisdom of settingup SunSwop in the first place: among otherthings, we wanted to make it easy for ourowners to be able to exchange back into theirown family of resorts. What’s more, in these two years of operationwe’ve expanded our range of services andproducts to include:• SunSwop Choices, a multifaceted offeringthat, in particular, allows timeshare owners toexchange into Southern Sun’s suite of hotelsacross the country• Bonus Weeks – you don’t use up yourdeposited timeshare with these … you paya fee for the getaway break you want andthat’s that• SunSwop Travel, a one-stop port of call forarranging anything from flights to car hire, andfrom island packages to cruises• Premium Holiday Cover for safeguardingyour vacation in the event of misfortuneEarly in 2011, SunSwop will be going digitalwhen we launch our online reservationsystem for your greater convenience. So there’s been development, consolidationand expansion. But, as our Operations DirectorDeon Viljoen points out, the more thingschange, the more they stay the same … and inthe case of SunSwop, this is literally true.We are happy to announce that our exchangefees have not increased for the second year ina row. They remain what they were when welaunched in 2009 (i.e. R395 internal, R699 externaland R1460 international). Finally, let me say that we’re always on thelookout for new and exciting resorts to enhanceyour vacation lifestyle. We have nowadded the following destinations into ourportfolio of resorts into which you are able toexchange: Stonehill River Lodge, Seasons EcoEstate, Dunkeld Country Estate, PiekenierskloofMountain Lodge, Avalon Springs andOcean Shores. We are happy toannounce that ourexchange fees havenot increased forthe second year ina row. They remainwhat they werewhen we launchedin 2009.4 RESORT DIRECTORY • 2011
