Letters to the editorKUDOS PREPTALKThe annual edition of PrepTalk,’Facets’, came as an intellectual treatfor me. The exhaustive list of articlesprovided proved to be of immense helpto me. The fact that this issue came ata time when most of the students werebusy bracing up for the interviewslined up for prestigious B schools wasvery satisfying. The issue had almosteverything one could ask for. It wasvery enriching to go through the mazeof happenings which took place in theyear 2009.Articles like ‘the reverse braindrain, social networking, cloudcomputing were in particular worthreading. The articles by Sandeep Sir,Manas Sir and Varun Sir were veryengrossing. I hope that the PrepTalkteam includes their rich thoughtsevery month. It would do a lot of goodto the students and they would surelybe benefited. I would like to extend mysincere congratulations to theEditorial team of PrepTalk for comingout with a wonderful issue. We all lookforward to savour the intellectualarticles, this magazine always offers.– Rajesh Patidar, IndoreInternet AddictionI solely agree with the viewsexpressed in the article ‘InternetAddiction’. Many parents today areconfronted with this very real andgrowing problem among theirchildren. But little do the childrenrealize that they are neglecting theirfamily and friends, losing track of timewhile online and sacrificing sleep tospend time online. They claim to be apart of a virtual community who sharecommon goals and each day set off ondigital quests in a fantasy worldpeppered with magic, sorcery anddragons galore. There is no doubt thatthe Internet can be an excellentresource for information, communication and entertainment, butthis generation has to learn to draw theline somewhere. Unless they bringsome balance into their lives they wouldbe compromising their future and bothpsychological and physical health withsuch compulsive internet use.– Vivek Jaiswal, AhmedabadSocial Networking: Connecting peopleonlineThe article brought many points onthe fore as far as the benefits of socialnetworking is concerned. It definitelyhelps us to improve our social skills.because socializing via technologyisn't as immediate as face-to-faceinteractions or telephoneconversations, we have a little moretime to think about a situation beforewe can respond. This is an opportunityfor us to experiment with greetings, responses, etc. . Technology is evolvingfaster than ever before. As childrenlearn to adapt to new technologies (ornew applications of existingtechnologies), they will be betterequipped to adapt to futuretechnology. This will help themquickly assess the risks ofcommunicating through these newmethods and adapt their behavior tomaintain control over their own safety. While online communicationtechnologies increasingly allow forfreeform interaction, socialinteraction can be narrowed (forpurposes of scope and safety).– S.
