3. Entry routes into higher education institutions<br />
For academic year 2012/2013, applicants into higher education institutions will be<br />
categorized as follows:<br />
a) Direct Applicants include:<br />
i) All who completed their Advanced Level Secondary Education in years 2010,<br />
2011 and 2012;<br />
ii) All who completed their Ordinary Diploma (NTA level 6) in years 2009/2010,<br />
2010/2011 and those who will complete their studies in 2011/2012; and<br />
iii) All who completed their Diploma in Teacher Education in years 2009/2010,<br />
2010/2011 and those who will complete their studies in 2011/2012<br />
b) Indirect Applicants<br />
i) All who completed their Advanced Level Secondary Education in years 1988<br />
to 2009;<br />
ii) All who completed their Ordinary Diploma (NTA level 6) in the year 2008;<br />
and<br />
iii) All who completed their Diploma in Teacher Education in years 1988 to<br />
2009.<br />
c) Equivalent Applicants include holders of:<br />
i) Diplomas (Non-NTA level 6) offered by <strong>Tanzania</strong>n institutions and have<br />
been recognized by NACTE;<br />
ii) Diplomas from outside <strong>Tanzania</strong> which have been recognized by NACTE;<br />
iii) Bachelor degrees related to the sought programme. e.g. B.Com -- or B.A<br />
Economics;<br />
iv) Post-Form VI Certificates of one year and above offered by universities or<br />
professional bodies such as NBAA and PSPTB (<strong>for</strong>mer NBMM) that have<br />
been recognized by NACTE.<br />
NB: 1. All applicants under Category a) and b) will apply through the<br />
Central Admission System<br />
2. All applicants under Category c) will apply directly to institutions of<br />
their choice.<br />
4. Types of higher education delivery modes<br />
Applicants should note that there are two modes of higher education delivery, namely,<br />
Conventional or Regular mode and Open and Distance Learning (ODL). Conventional<br />
mode of programme delivery is classroom-based while ODL is a mode where there are<br />
no regular classes. Students under ODL mode conduct their study using self-instruction<br />
materials and structured face-to-face interaction with their lecturers or instructors.<br />
