BAC-12xxxx/13xxxx/14xxxx SeriesFlexStat Description and ApplicationThe award-winning FlexStat is a controller andsensor in a single, attractive package that creates aflexible solution to stand-alone control challenges orBACnet network challenges. Temperature sensing isstandard with optional humidity, motion, and CO 2sensing. Flexible input and output configurations andbuilt-in or custom programming ensure that a varietyof application needs can be met. Such applicationsinclude single- and multi-stage packaged, unitary, and split systems (including high SEER/EER variablespeed packaged equipment), as well as factory-packagedand field-applied economizers, water-sourceand air-to-air heat pumps, fan coil units, central stationair handling units, and other similar applications. In addition, an on-board library of programs permitsa single model to be rapidly configured for a widerange of HVAC control applications. Thus, a single“one size fits all” FlexStat model can replace multiplecompetitor models. A single BAC-120163CW, forexample, can be quickly configured for any of theseapplication options:◆ Air handling unit, with proportional heating andcooling valves, and with optional economizer, dehumidification, and/or fan status◆ Fan coil unit, 2-pipe or 4-pipe, proportional or2-position valves, with optional dehumidification(w/ 4-pipe option) and/or fan status◆ Heat pump unit, with up to two compressorstages, and with optional auxiliary heat, emergencyheat, dehumidification, and/or fan status◆ Roof top unit, with up to two H/C stages, andwith optional economizer, dehumidification, and/or fan statusFlexStats also provide the capability to customize thestandard library of sequences using a KMC programmingtool (BACstage or TotalControl). This enables alocal authorized KMC installing contractor to adaptthe standard library to the unique site needs and application-specificrequirements of a particular project.BACnet over MS/TP communication is standard.“E” versions, with an RJ-45 jack, add BACnet overEthernet, BACnet over IP, and BACnet over IPas Foreign Device (for communication across theInternet).(ShownwithOptionalMotionandHumiditySensors)FeaturesInterface and Function◆ User-friendly English-language menus (noobscure numeric codes) on a 64 x 128 pixel,dot-matrix LCD display with 5 buttons for dataselection and entry◆ Multiple display options include selectablespace temperature display precision, degreesF/C toggle, rotation values, display blanking, hospitality mode, and locked mode◆ Built-in, factory-tested libraries of configurableapplication control sequences◆ Integral energy management control with optimumstart, deadband heating and cooling setpoints, and other advanced features to assurecomfort while maximizing energy savings◆ Schedules can easily be set uniquely by the entireweek (Mon.–Sun.), weekdays (Mon.–Fri.), weekend(Sat.–Sun.), individual days, and/or holidays;six On/Off and independent heating and coolingsetpoint periods are available per day◆ Three levels of password-protected access (user/operator/administrator) prevent disruption ofoperation and configuration—plus Hospitalitymode and Locked User Interface mode offer additionaltamper resistance◆ Integral temperature and optional humidity, motion(shown in photo above), and/or CO 2sensors◆ All models have 72-hour power (capacitor)backup and a real time clock for network timesynchronization or full stand alone operation◆ Models functionally replace most Viconics andother competitors’ productsSpecifications and design subject 1 to change without notice.

The sensorwill maintain accuracy specifications with ABCLogic enabled, given that it is at least four timesin 21 days exposed to the reference value and thisreference value is the lowest concentration to whichthe sensor is exposed. ABC Logic requires continuousoperation of the sensor for periods of at least 24hours.NOTE: The BAC-13xxxx series, with ABC Logic, hasbeen certified to comply with CA Title 24,Section 121(c), as well as sub-paragraph 4.Fthat specifies accuracy will be maintainedwithin tolerance for a minimum of 5 yearswithout recalibration and that a detectedsensor failure will cause the controller totake appropriate corrective action.NOTE: See also the Demand Control Ventilationsection on the next page. The BAC-14xxxx series, for zones with continuousoccupancy, has a dual channel sensor. A CO 2channelmeasures gas concentration, and a reference channelmeasures the sensor signal intensity. Self-calibrationsare performed approximately every 24 hours usingthe reference channel. During the self-calibration thesensor ppm reading is frozen and will not react tochanging CO 2.6

Demand Control VentilationAccessoriesWhen using applications with a modulating economizeroption, the three types of Demand ControlVentilation (DCV) configurations available are:◆ Basic—provides basic DCV, modulating the outsideair damper in direct response to the currentCO 2level with respect to its setpoint.◆ Standard—When the BAC-13xxxx settings areproperly configured, complies with CA Title 24,Section 121(c).◆ Advanced—When the settings are properly configured, complies with ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2010 and follows guidelines by Portland EnergyConservation, Inc. (PECI).Although BAC-12xxxx FlexStats do not have a builtinCO 2sensor, they still have DCV control sequencesavailable. When DCV is enabled in these models,IN9 is assumed to be connected to an external KMCSAE-10xx CO 2sensor. BAC-13xxxx/14xxxx FlexStatsalso have the external sensor option, and if used, thehighest of the two readings (internal vs. external)will be used to control DCV sequences. The CO 2ppm display (when enabled) also shows the highestof the two levels.NOTE: DCV is only available when using anAHU, RTU, or HPU application with amodulating economizer option enabled.Without that configuration, DCV willnot appear in menus, but the CO 2ppmreadings will (unless turned off in the UserInterface menu) still show on the lowerright of the display.CoolingSetpointOADPosition(Unoccupied)Night Flush(EconomizerCooling)ScheduledOn TimePre-purgeStartup*(Occupied)OccupancyStandby*NormalStandbyScheduledOff TimeOccupancyOverride*Recovery(Manual)Override(Unoccupied)(*Available only on FlexStats with motion sensors)Example Schedule, DCV, and Motion Sensor Applications7HMO-10000HMO-10000WHPO-0044HTO-1103KMD-5567KMD-5575KMD-5576KMD-5624SP-001Horizontal or 4 x4 handy box wallmounting platefor BAC-12xxxxmodels only, light almond(shown)HMO-10000 inwhiteReplacementcover hex screwFlexStat firmwareflash upgrade kit(formerly KMD-5699)Network surgesuppressorNetwork repeater/isolatorEIA-485 to USBCommunicatorPC data port(EIA-485) cable(FlexStat to USBCommunicator)—includedwith the KMD-5576 (buy forthird-party EIA-232 interfaces)Flat blade andhex end screwdriver(withKMC logo) forcover hex screwsXEE-6111-040 Transformer, 120-to-24 VAC, 40VA, single-hubXEE-6112-040 Transformer, 40VA, dual-hub
