Press ReleaseAstra Tech launches a new abutment system – Direct AbutmentThe Direct Abutment is a new abutment system from Astra Tech and the latest innovation inline with the company’s strategy to simplify implant treatment and make it more efficient. TheDirect Abutment has already become a success in the US and is now being launched in Europe.Using the Direct Abutment the prosthetic part of the treatment is just as easy as conventionalcrown and bridge therapy. The pre-prepared abutments are available in four different diametersand heights to facilitate maximum flexibility and esthetics, independent of the clinical indication. The Direct Abutment System offers a simplified restorative protocol for implant-supportedconstructions. It has been developed for cemented constructions and provides solutions for mostclinical cases without the need for customization. This gives the clinician an unchallengedpossibility to recreate the patients’ natural smile and appearance with standard technique. The 12 different pre-prepared Direct Abutments have several features making the systempreferable as a standard procedure. (Image 1)• Snap-on groove situated directly over the restorativemargin providing retention for the Impression Pick-upand simplifying the impression taking.(Image 1) Pre-prepared Direct Abutments for allpositions in the mouth.• In the majority of cases you will be able to find theright abutment for the situation, without having to doany preparations. However, in rare occasions whenyou need to do an occlusal reduction, the abutmentsare provided with a laser etched indication at 1 mmfrom the top allowing for the necessary customization.• Hex hole at the top allowing options for carrying, seating and retrieval.• Convenient all-in-one process-kit with all components included. In the kit you will find theDirect Abutment, a Carrier, an Impression Pick-up, an Abutment Replica, a Healing Cap anda Burnout Cylinder. (Image 2)• The simplified treatment protocol and wide variety of diameters and heights offer you themeans to perform your implant-retained restorations with conventional crown and bridgetechniques. The abutments fit the complete fixture range. The collar heights are available in0.5 mm (ultra), 1.25 mm (low), 2.55 mm (medium) and 3.85 mm (high).

The fixture design withmicrothreads at the cervical part of the implant prevents marginal bone loss and thereby contributesto a better final long-term esthetic result (Image 3-3.2). Bone preservation leads to healthysoft tissue architecture and no black triangles (Images 3.3 and 3.4). This is also confirmedin several long-term studies (5 years follow-up). Fixture MicroThread is also well suited forimmediate loading, which can considerably decrease the treatment period for the patient.(Image 3-3.2)FEA (Finite Element Analysis) graphicsshowing optimized and evenly distributedstress at the implant neck – induced bythe MicroThread retention elements.(Image 3.3 and 3.4) Healthy bone and soft tissuemeans no “black triangles”, giving optimal esthetics. For further information, please contact:Björn Delin D.D.S.Product Group & Marketing Director, DentalAstra Tech ABPhone: +46 31-776 31 13Mobile: +46 705-767 260Fax: +46 31-776 30 12e-mail: bjorn.delin@astratech.comAstra Tech AB, P.O.
