Only rule is that the doll is at least 25% of thefinished product.For questions or to purchase a doll, contact Massy or SallyAnaya, 425-271-0647, sallyanaya9@comcast.net.Regional <strong>Basket</strong> Day at theSequim Prairie GrangePortland Handweavers GuildAnnual SaleThe Portland Handweavers Guild Annual Sale,Handwovens Plus, showcasing the work of over 40 regionaltextile artists will be held April 24 – 26, <strong>2009</strong> at the OregonConvention Center located at 777 NE Martin Luther KingBoulevard, Portland, Oregon. Sale hours are Friday, April24, 10 A.M. to 9 P.M., Saturday, April 25, 10 A.M. to 7P.M., and Sunday, April 26, 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Admissionis free.This is a once a year opportunity to browse and purchaseunique, handmade fiber art ranging from wearable art touseful table linens to decorative basketry. Choose fromjackets, scarves, shawls, placemats, blankets, rugs, beadweaving, baskets, both functional and sculptural, yarn andmuch more.The third annual Regional <strong>Basket</strong> Day was heldNovember 22 nd in Sequim, WA, and was a greatsuccess! Five full day classes were offered as well asdrop in projects for both adults and kids. All the fullday classes were filled in advance, with 32 non-guildmembers signing up. In total, 52 adults made basketsin either full day or drop in classes. We had only 4 kidsat the kids drop in table, but those kids left proudlycarrying their projects! And the kid’s table instructorswere able to help busy instructors of other classeswhere they needed.The Sequim Gazette ran a wonderful article the weekof the event, and as a result of that and other publicity,we had a lot of interested folks drop in during the dayto observe the various projects, purchase basketsoffered for sale by guild members and learn about theguild and upcoming events.This was the first regional basket day where wecharged students a nominal class fee. Full day classeswere $10 and half day/drop in were $5. This resultedin income of $495 to the guild to help offset costs.Many thanks go to the Sequim organizers, KatheyErvin and Sharle Osborne. In addition thanks are dueto a great set of instructors, Kay Harradine, SallyAnaya, Ann McKane, JoAnn Hart, Elaine Twogoodand her assistants Carol, Mary Auld, Marcee Charlsheand Karen Samdahl. And the event would not havebeen possible without a great bunch of guild membervolunteers, thanks to all of you who helped!Special events include Fashion Shows on Friday andSaturday at 2 P.M. featuring a scarf-tying lesson. JohnBeard will be demonstrating Ravenstail weaving, anancient <strong>Northwest</strong> Coast Indian technique all three days.Daily demonstrations of weaving, spinning and basketryand children’s hands-on activities will be ongoing.The Portland Handweavers Guild has been in existence forover 60 years. In addition to providing its members witheducational opportunities through lectures, workshops,scholarships, study groups, and venues to sell and exhibittheir work, the Guild is fostering a future interest in the craftby supporting the weaving program at DaVinci Art MagnetSchool. Members promote the craft of weaving throughpublic outreach demonstrations at schools and fairs.This event is held in conjunction with the annual sales ofthe Oregon Potters Association Ceramics Showcase, theCreative Metal Arts Guild, the Oregon Glass Guild, the<strong>Northwest</strong> Fine Woodworkers Guild, the Guild of OregonWoodworkers and the Portland Bead Society.
