Canberra Jazz Club Newsletter Aug – Sep 2013 2Dear members,PRESIDENT’S REPORTAt the end of our financial year, I can only say that the Club is going ahead in leaps and bounds. Ourmembership is the best it has been for many years, and still increasing. It is so nice to welcome newmembers and also to say hello again to old members who had fallen off for some time. This is all due to theexcellent work of the Committee and their continued enthusiasm. The big event last month was of course the Mystery Trip. This event each year has been the work of Jennyand Myrene, also John. Each has other duties in the Club and I will be mentioning those things in myAnnual Report. But to get back to this year’s Mystery Trip I have to say that I did not hear one commentagainst it – everyone enjoyed it.The morning tea at Lanyon was a great innovation even with the rain shower. Then the trip towardsQueanbeyan had us all guessing. The re-decorated Royal Hotel was the big surprise. They did us proud andthe music supplied by John Black , Lisa McLelland, James Luke and Mitch Preston was just perfect. Earlierin the week it seemed we would have a half empty bus, however our trusty Secretary Linda sent out areminder about the event and also mentioned that we were doing our best to provide different activities forour members at very cheap rates and the result was that we had a full bus and several others arrived later aswell. So far this year all our events have been well attended and so we can afford to subsidise buses to such events, thanks to the diligent work of our Treasurer Ron.My duties as president are very light these days and I am very grateful for all the help. Mind you I stillalways take membership forms in my handbag whenever I go to a Jazz event. The Big Band Series at the Southern Cross Club has been very entertaining and largely successful. This isentirely due to the hard work of Lynda Wade. Having some local amateur groups as well as the moreprofessional ones from Sydney has been excellent. The styles of the different jazz eras have been great tohear. That’s all for now folks, see you at the AGM.CheersMargaretMargaret MoriartyPhone: 02 6286 3936 Email: mmo59530@bigpond.net.auNOTE FROM THE EDITOR.
