Her fathertraded ships for planes and made a career inthe Air Force. Consequently, Gigi hastraveled and lived all over the world.Graduating from Wesleyan College with aBusiness major was the longest she everstayed in any one place and she spent mostof her career in medical equipment sales.Experience in healthcare is what brought herto <strong>Roper</strong> as a volunteer in the <strong>Roper</strong> RehabHospital. Gigi calls both 8 Petit and 3 Westhome and has fit in nicely in those areas.Gigi loves reading, especially on her Nook;and enjoys detective, conspiracy and historybooks. She likes classical music, walking,and swimming. She completed the CooperRiver Bridge walk last year. Gigi lives in Mount Pleasantand feels like she has found her home. Gigi has twosisters Bess and Mickie.Say hello to Gigi when you see her. She works anytimethere is a need, pitching in behind the scenes to makeevents run smoothly and serves without fanfare. Richard drivesthe golf cart, giving rides to ourcustomers and employees in the parkinglot and Augusta serves as hostess in thebusy OR waiting room.Richard was born at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Francis</strong> Hospitaland grew up on James Island. Heattended Newberry College, graduatingwith a degree in math and then spent fouryears in the Air Force. He retired fromBosch as a Senior Program Analyst in2009. Richard is a Life Master inDuplicate Bridge returning to the gameafter a long absence.Augusta had volunteered years ago inthe newborn nursery and when she came back this time,she brought Richard with her. Augusta was born andgrew up in Sumter, S.C. She attended Winthrop Collegeand MUSC and has lived in Charleston since 1970. Shehas found her home in the OR waiting room. She enjoyshelping families waiting while their loved one is in surgery.Richard and Augusta are active members of Old <strong>St</strong>.Andrews Church. <strong>The</strong>y have a daughter Lauren and agrandchild on the way this spring. <strong>The</strong>y both lovevolunteering at <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Francis</strong> Hospital and look forward toWednesdays!Jest for Fun - Medical HumorAs part of the admission procedure in the hospital where Iwork (far, far from Charleston), I ask the patients if theyare allergic to anything. If they are, I print it on an allergyband which is placed on the patient’s wrist.Once when I asked an elderly woman if she had anyallergies, she said she couldn’t eat bananas.Imagine my surprise when several hours later a very irateson came out to the nurse’s station demanding, “Who’sresponsible for labeling my mother ‘Bananas’?”Annual Volunteer MeetingFebruary 9, 10 a.m.Annual review of important issues for volunteers.Door prize!Employee ForumsJoin <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Francis</strong> employees for a hospital update fromAllen Carroll, CEO.
