ATRAZOLMode of Action and UsesAgriculture and ForestryAtrazol is a liquid formulation of atrazine which is a residual and foliar acting herbicidefor the control of most annual weeds in maize, raspberries, roses and selective weedcontrol in coniferous forests.NotesAgriculture and ForestryDo not use on Christmas trees. Do not use Atrazol on Norway Spruce, WesternHemlock,European or Hybrid larch when the trees are in full flush, or being grown oncalcareous soils.Intervals for planting 'following crops 'are given under timing. After lifting treatedcrops the land should be mould board ploughed or repeatedly cultivated to a depth of15cm.GeneralAtrazol is a soil acting herbicide and therefore adverse environmental conditions suchas drought may result in poor weed control.Action by root-uptake will be significantly reduced in highly organic soils. Providedweeds do not exceed 3cm in height, sufficient foliar action is achieved. Root-uptakewill be enhanced if rainfall occurs soon after application.Following repeated and exclusive use of atrazine or other triazines, resistant strains ofweeds may develop. Where resistant strains develop or are introduced weed controlmay be reduced.Succeeding CropsAfter applying Atrazol a minimum interval of 7 months must elapse before afollowing crop is drilled or planted. After spring application any crop may be sown inthe next calendar year. But soil must be fully inverted using a mould board plough to adepth of 15 cm and harrowed, before sowing following crops except for maize. OatsMUST NOT be sown in the autumn following a spring application. However ifunusually dry weather occurs during the months following an application of Atrazol, residues may remain in the soil longer than 7 months. This could in some cases causedamage to the following crop. DHM do not accept any responsibility for suchoccurrences, nor for the results obtained.ApplicationMixingTo ensure even distribution, gently invert the container once or twice before measuringthe required quantity. Whilst agitating, add the measured amount of liquid to part of thebulk of water in the spray tank and top up to the desired level.Volumes of WaterThe recommended spray volumes are:Spraying machine: 200 to 2000 litres per hectare.Knapsack sprayer: 3 litres per 100m/sq.

ATRAZOLRates of Use and TimingAgriculture and ForestryCROP/PROBLEMRATE OF USE OF ATRAZOL -PRE SOWINGPRE- OR POST-EMERGENCETIMINGConiferous forests -See "Notes")4.5 litresper hectareApply to timber crops only. Bestduring the period February-April.Transient scorch damage mayoccur in late April or early MayTreatments can be carried out in the firstspring after planting and should berepeated annually until the trees are largeenough to compete with the weeds. Thereshould be a six metre grass strip betweentreated land and any water course or lake,to reduce soil run off.Maize: -Annual weeds2.3 to 3.5 litresper hectareBefore weeds emerge, use lower rate ifsoil is light. After weeds emerge, usehigher rate. After application, aminimum interval of 7 months mustelapse before planting the followingcrop.Maize: Perennialgrasses4.5 litres4.5 litresper hectareFirst year-apply pre-sowing,plough or deep cultivate, and then applyeither pre- or post-emergence. Do not growany other crops except maize within 18months of second application. Second yearapplyonce at 2.3 litres per hectare toinclude annual weed control. Do not replantwithin 7 months.Raspberries: -Annual weeds2.3 to 4.5 litresper hectareApply in the spring before newcane emergence. Do not use in season ofplanting. Use the lower rate on light soils.Weeds should be less than 4cmin height.Roses: -Annual weeds2.3 to 3.5 litresper hectareApply before weeds exceed3cm in height.

ATRAZOLAsh and cinder surfaceAtrazol is absorbed on surfaces such as cinders, coal dust, peat, etc., weed control may bereduced.Fire RiskAtrazol is itself non-flammable and can be used on fire risk sites. However, to minimise the firerisk from dead vegetation, application should be made at the start of seasonal growth to keepdead residues to a minimum.CompatibilityAtrazol is compatible with constant agitation with Gramoxone 100 and Approvedformulations of paraquat (MAFF No. 02455), at their recommended doses and timing. AddAtrazol to the water as directed under MIXING then add the paraquat.PRECAUTIONSWEAR SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND FACE PROTECTION(FACESHIELD) when handling the concentrate.WASH HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN before meals and after work.DO NOT CONTAMINATE PONDS, WATERWAYS OR DITCHES with chemical or usedcontainer.STORE IN ORIGINAL CONTAINER, tightly closed, in a safe place.WASH OUT CONTAINER THOROUGHLY and dispose of safelyPROTECT FROM FROST.WASH EQUIPMENT THOROUGHLY with water and wetting agent immediately after use andspray out.
