Dr. ANIL MEHROTRAInterim DeanSchulich School of Engineering Studentawards have a tremendous impact notonly on individual lives but on thisengineering school.Every year, we award well over$5-million dollars in bursaries andscholarships – recognizing excellence,championing diverse strengths and insome cases covering basic needs so thatstudents can focus on their studies.We are passionate about providing theopportunity for all ambitious students,regardless of background, to apply theirtalents to the engineering profession.With these awards we create a culturein the Schulich School of Engineeringthat holds up high standards, hard work,accomplishment and, most importantly,leadership. This is critical to our goal ofproviding the best possible engineeringeducation in the country.On this Student Excellence Awardsevening, the 20th in the school’shistory, we provide an opportunityfor the award recipients and theirfamilies to meet the generous peopleand organizations who have investedin them. We want to acknowledgecommunity contributions and academicexcellence and to celebrate students whohave made an extra effort to explore,innovate, initiate or show leadership inother ways.We applaud the benefactors of theseunique scholarships and awardprograms. A B O U TT H ES P O N S O RThe Student Excellence Awards is sponsored by the Engineering AssociatesProgram at the Schulich School of Engineering. This program is a valuablepartnership between the engineering school and industry partners. The goalof the program is to build and maintain a world class engineering school thatwill exceed society’s expectations and needs for engineering education, researchand service. Members of Engineering Associates Program meet for a variety ofprofessional development and social activities such as monthly breakfast meetings,the Student Excellence Awards, the Dean’s Holiday Reception, and special events.The Engineering Associates Program also makes up the Schulich School ofEngineering’s senior industry advisory body. The program is in its 20th year.
