NEWS from adventist healthcare<strong>San</strong> 9th innational surveyof 393 hospitalsNew world standardsin cancer care thanksto clinical trialsGreat care at the <strong>San</strong> has been recognised in a patientsatisfaction survey conducted by health fund HCF.The survey results show that the <strong>San</strong> is rated by itspatients as 9th out of 393 private and public hospitalsAustralia-wide.Patients were asked if they were likely to recommendthe <strong>Hospital</strong> they visited to their friends or colleagues.The <strong>San</strong> received a ranking of 9.0.“This is a great result” said <strong>Adventist</strong> Healthcare and<strong>San</strong> Chief Executive Officer Dr Leon Clark.“It reflects the standard of care provided by <strong>San</strong> staff.”The average score for hospitals (out of 10) was;• 8.7 (nationally)• 8.6 (QLD & VIC)• 8.8 (NSW)On average the 109 public hospitals surveyedreceived 7.9 out of 10 while the 284 private hospitalssurveyed received 8.8 out of 10.8000 HCF members participated in the survey.Associate Professor Gavin Marx & the <strong>San</strong> Clinical Trials TeamClinical trial results from patients requiring bonestrengthening medication have contributed towardsglobal research that led to ‘Denosumab’ beingadministered as the new ‘standard of care’ worldwide.Clinical trials were conducted at the <strong>San</strong>’s ClinicalTrials Unit, which was established in 2005.The new standard of care gives cancer patients whoneed it a less time-consuming, less invasive method ofreceiving bone strengthening medication.Unit Manager Nina Singh and Coordinator SallyWoodhead presented two research posters at theClinical Oncological Society of Australia conferencein Brisbane.
