<strong>Fee</strong> <strong>Advice</strong>This is a private Emergency Department. It is fullyequipped with the latest technology and staffed 24hours a day. Our fees help to pay some of the costsof the experienced staff who treat you, as well as theoverhead costs of operating a first class Emergencyfacility. Medicare and the health funds considerthese fees “outpatient” charges, even if you areadmitted to hospital. We expect payment at or priorto the time of treatment.Your fixed out of pocket expense is $305All patients attending <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong> <strong>Hospital</strong>(SAH) Emergency Care are required to pay afixed out of pocket expense of $305 (includes a$45 facility fee and a $260 medical services fee).In the interests of streamlining our processes,you are required to pay the $305 prior to yourconsultation commencing.Your $305 out of pocket Emergency Care expenseWILL NOT change.SAH requests that you sign a Medicare Claimform as permission for us to submit your finalisedEmergency Care invoice to Medicare on yourbehalf.When Medicare has processed your claim you willreceive a rebate cheque made payable to SAH. Werequest that you forward this cheque along withpayment for any other outstanding invoices to SAH.Medicare Safety NetUpon receipt of the Medicare cheque SAH willforward you a detailed receipt summary of youraccount.You may present this summary to Medicare forrebate purposes and to update your Safety Netbalance.


Please note: - Payments made towards the $45Emergency Care facility fee and medical servicesfrom locum doctors do not contribute towards yourannual “Safety Net” limit.Locum DoctorsAlthough locum doctors are fully qualified medicalpractitioners, Medicare Australia has not issuedthem with a provider number.If you are treated by a locum doctor your out of pocketexpense will remain at $305. SAH will not receive anadditional payment from Medicare.Specialist ConsultsThe Emergency Care doctor might ask one of our visitingspecialists to consult or treat you. They are not hospitalemployees and will charge their own fees.Medicare and your health funds will contribute but youwill be responsible for paying any gap.Some patients may qualify for a discounted fee.Please ask our reception staff if you think this mayapply to you.• X-ray • Crutches and Splints • Pharmacy• Physiotherapy • Other Diagnostic Services • PathologyThese departments will charge you separately. SAHwill send these accounts within a few days. You mayhave out of pocket expenses for these charges.If you would like further details about our fees please askour reception staff. They can also advise you on the mostconvenient way for you to settle your account.
