the answer
in Club Z

In a time of shrinking school aid,
larger class sizes and less individual
instruction, families are discovering
they can fill in the gaps with good oldfashioned,
one-on-one tutoring.
Club 2, an in-home tutoring service
franchise owned by Dean and Kathryn
Thompson, of Canton, is the answer to
many homework mysteries, conflicts
and stumbling blocks.
"Working one-on-one with kids is
such a nice way to meet their needs,"
said Kathryn Thompson, who has been
a teacher for 31 years. "The way school
districts are going, we're seeing less and
less individual instruction,"
Janet Hong, of Novi, said Club Z is a
nice alternative to another group tutoring
program her 8-year-old son, Kiefer,
attended.
"I like the one-on-one basis," she said.
"It's more concentrated on him and
more catered to his needs."
The Thompsons' business has 150
tutors which serve 300-400 students
via in-home tutoring at least twice a
week. Club 2 also tutors through school
districts, which receive some funding
from the No Child Left Behind federal
law.
Club Z handles after-school tutoring
for middle school youth in the
Farmington Hills After School Program
at the Costick Activities Center.
"They have saved us in the area of
tutoring," said Todd Lipa, Farmington
Hills Youth and Family Services director.
"They have worked with so many
students, many who were struggling
and have become better students."
SUMMER SCHOOL
, Club 2 will offer a summer program
at its' Novi location and at the Jon
Grant Community Center in
Farmington Hills. The program,
Summer Science Studies, will be held
Mondays and Tuesdays from June 18
through Aug. 10. A Study Skills course
will be offered Monday through Friday
from Aug. 20-31, which will help students
transition back to school.
