consultation with National Treasury, Statistics South Africa and the PSC, for the development and maintenanceof the database of Government’s poverty reduction programmes and projects. The database should be updatedon an annual basis.A standardised set of variables and indicators for each programme and project need to be developed andadapted for department specifi c circumstances. In addition appropriate business processes to ensure the properrecording of information on programmes and projects need to be developed. In this regard, there is a need forGovernment to develop a system that allows programmes and projects to be provided with unique identifi ercodes or numbers. It is also critical that geographic information on the projects is provided and that the sub-placenames database of Stats SA becomes the offi cial source to be used for geo-locating projects.xii
