Ourown Church is no exception.Allow us to introduce ourselves. The Gloria Dei Choir isprecisely that: a choir who sings in the honour of the gloryof God (gloria Dei). It is a choir that actively participatesin musical events around the region (and even inNew York!), but first and foremost, “seeks to serve God,the Catholic Church and our parish community throughthe gift of prayerful song.” We sing, week in and weekout, the offertory and meditation anthems at 9:30 a.m.Sunday Mass here at Our Lady of Guadalupe, as well asat major feast day services.As always, we are looking for new members. We’d loveto have you join our ranks! There is no formal audition;we simply have one requirement: that you be able tocarry a tune. Duruflé wasassistant organist at Notre-Dame de Paris under LouisVierne and later titular Organist at St-Étienne-du-Montand professor of Harmony at the famed Paris Conservatory.He collaborated with many of the great Frenchcomposers of the mid-twentieth century (including Poulencand Daniel-Lesur), and his music shows traces of astyle that was prominent in Paris from 1920-1960. Themotet (a piece of music on a pre-existing sacred text thatis not a Mass part) is one of four published in 1960 thatfeature the original chant line woven into the music; youcan hear the chant in the high voices at the very opening,and later in the altos.We’re glad to be back. You’ve met some of us over thecourse of time.
