Like King, Lucas participated inlocal protests and demonstrations to achieve school integrationin his hometown of Lake Providence, La. In August 1983, he attendedthe 20th anniversary of the March on Washington. It wasduring that march that Lucas received the inspiration to learnand later recite King’s speeches. Lucas travels nationwide deliveringvarious renditions of King’s “I Have a Dream,” “I’ve Been tothe Mountaintop,” and excerpts from “The Drum Major Instinct”and “The Letter from Birmingham Jail,” in this dramatic one-manshow.Tuesday, August 31 | Nininger Gym, 9:30 a.m.Opening Convocation - President George E. He obtained hisundergraduate degree fromThe Pennsylvania State University,and holds a juris doctordegree, magna cum laude,from the Dickinson School ofLaw of Penn State.Cornelius formerly servedas Secretary of Communityand Economic Development(DCED) for the Commonwealthof Pennsylvania, wherehe directed a department ofapproximately 350 employeesand 90 state and federal programs. Prior to joining PennsylvaniaGov. Edward Rendell’s cabinet, Cornelius was president andCEO of Arkema Inc. Operations in the Americas included sevenbusiness units, R&D and technology center, corporate stafffunctions, 18 manufacturing centers, and commercial offices inBrazil, Canada and Mexico. Before that, he served as vice presidentand general counsel of ATOFINA (predecessor to ArkemaInc.). An attorney, Cornelius formerly was a partner at EckertSeamans Cherin & Mellott, a national law firm headquartered inPittsburgh.Cornelius has been a member of the Knobsville, Mechanicsburg,Ridgeway and Wilmington (Del.) congregations of the Church ofthe Brethren, and for several years served as a licensed ministerin the Southern Pennsylvania District.Cornelius and his wife, Susan, are the parents of two adult sonswho are married and living in Indianapolis and Portland, Ore.Thursday, September 2 | Cole Hall, 7:30 p.m.Discovery Channel’s Smash Lab: Deanne BellSponsor: Harold H.
