ESSENTIAL DONNING STEPSThis checklist is intended to help the user properly DONhis <strong>BioPak</strong> <strong>240</strong> <strong>Revolution</strong>.Always check for a valid turn-around maintenance tag. If a<strong>BioPak</strong> <strong>240</strong>R does not have a completed and valid turnaroundmaintenance tag, the apparatus must not be placedin service until a trained Benchman has serviced the<strong>BioPak</strong> <strong>240</strong>R and deemed it ready for use.CO 2 Cartridges Replaced Section is filledin by the USER just prior to <strong>Donning</strong>. Thecard is given to the Captain or On-Scene-Commander. It verifies that CO 2 Scrubberhas been properly installed prior to use.


Do you have a clean oxygen cylinder washer seal onthe regulator stub? Never use lubricants on the seal.Failure to install a seal will cause the <strong>BioPak</strong> <strong>240</strong>R toleak oxygen reducing duration to a few minutes.Oxygen cylinder washer seal4. Prior to donning, OPEN the oxygen cylinder. Doesthe alarm and TRIM light function properly? Did youhear the alarm for approximately 10 seconds and seethe RED, GREEN, BLUE LIGHT SEQUENCE at startup?After start-up did the alarm stop and the TRIMgive you a flashing GREEN light? Close the cylinder.Tri-colored Indicator Module (TRIM)RED, GREEN, BLUE Flashing Light


7. Don the face piece. Ensure the Kevlar head net ispulled back and away from all sealing edges.IMMEDIATELY OPEN the oxygen supply (Open all theway until the valve stops.) You have approximately 1-2 minutes of ambient air inside the <strong>BioPak</strong> <strong>240</strong>R- -there is no need to panic or hold your breath. BUT,DO NOT GET DISTRACTED AND FORGET TO TURNON THE SUPPLY OF OXYGEN. ASPHYXIATION WILLOCCUR IF YOU FAIL TO TURN ON THE SUPPLY OFOXYGEN. Listen for the alarm again. Look at theTRIM and see your light sequence (RED< GREEN


9. Secure the Velcro hose-tie-downs to the hoses asnear to the CCBA as possible. Pictures below showone correct and one incorrect method. Notice thatthe incorrect method reduces hose length and willcause face piece seal to be lost when moving yourhead side to side.INCORRECTMinimal hose lengthfrom adapter to tiedownCORRECTMaximum hoselength from adapterto tie down10. POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE PRESSURE TESTBEFORE leaving the fresh-air base conduct a properPOSITIVE and NEGATIVE Pressure Test. This test MUSTbe performed WITH the Oxygen cylinder turned on. Verifythat a good face seal and proper check valve operation hasbeen achieved. Face mask seal and check valve operationis verified as follows:


a. With two hands collapse the inhalation hose (left hose)and inhale. Proper sealing of the exhalation (right hose)valve should result in the face mask being pulled intoward the face.Tests integrity ofexhalation checkvalve!Collapse inhalationhose on the USERSLEFT sideCollapse exhalationhose on the USERSRIGHT sideFlow direction Arrows UP!b. With two hands collapse the exhalation hose (righthose) and exhale. Proper sealing of the inhalation (lefthose) valve shall result in face mask being pushed awayfrom the face.Tests integrity ofinhalation checkvalve!Flow direction Arrows UP!


Check your gauge pressure every 15-20 minutes!You will discover face seal or other leaks beforeyou get too far from fresh air base.WARNING! This checklist isNOT a substitute for properUSER Training.
