B16 OPT IRA CEMETERY Marc Dusini represented Jonathon Hale. when Adam Vance drowned in the Cuyahoga River, the first recorded death in the township. His body is buried in the northwest corner of the cemetery without a marker. Fifty-one years later, Erwin Hammond transferred land for the cemetery to Bath Township when he sold his homestead; additional land was deeded to the township in 1879 and today the cemetery covers 0.7 acres with 218 recorded burials, including 11 veterans. At the marker installation ceremony, 12 local residents and members of Bath’s Historical Society donned period clothing and mannerisms to share stories of the lives and times of the folks who populated this area during the 19th and 20th centuries, based on historical research by Libby Bauman and Lee Darst. Jason Hammond (1762-1830), portrayed by Carl Boltz, told of how his ancestors came to America in 1632. Jonathan Hale (1777-1854), depicted by Marc Dusini, recalled events of his travels from Connecticut to the new Western Reserve and his early days here. Nettie Parker Cranz The Bath Country Journal, November 2012 (1867-1939), represented by Trustee Elaina Goodrich, read from her diary, describing daily life and telling of holidays, elections, economics and new babies. Mary McNeil contributed information on the life of Vlasta Cranz, who lived from 1909 to1977. The Ira Cemetery marker, the 45th in Summit County and the first for 2012, contains text describing the locale and what it represents and lists the names of sponsors of and contributors to the cost of the marker, including Heritage Corridors of Bath, Bath Township Historical Society, Bath Where the Fresh Fish Go Homeowner’s Association, Bath Business Association, Haslinger Family Foundation, Hayes and Diane Orender and Robert and Emily Hemphill. Those contributing time and effort to the project include Goodrich, who spearheaded the project, and countless other volunteers and members of the community.
