FM APPROVALS PROJECT NO: 30406022 DESCRIPTIONThe 640i and 780i Insertion and In-line Thermal Mass Flowmeters are used for gas flowmeasurement applications. The flowmeters integrate configuration, validation anddiagnostics in a probe-mounted or remotely-mounted housing. When remotelymounted, the electronics enclosure can be mounted up to 200 feet away from theremote probe enclosure. All variables can be monitored on an optional, viewabledisplay. The flowmeters can also provide 4-20 mA flow and temperature output, alarmoutput and an optional pressure output. The 640i is suitable for insertion into pipes orducts from three inches up to 72 inches while the 780i can go in-line to 8-inch flowbodies. For probes longer than 13 inches, a seal is required within 13 inches of theprobe and enclosure. The 640i and 780i Insertion and In-line Thermal Mass Flowmeters operate on 24 Vdc or100-240 Vac. The flowmeters are intended for use in an ambient temperature of -40°Cto +60°C and with process temperatures of -40°C to +200°C at a pressure of 300 psi (inline)or 500 psi (insertion).3 EXAMINATIONS AND TESTSSamples of the 640i and 780i Insertion and In-line Mass Thermal Flowmeters weresubmitted for examination and testing. The samples were considered to berepresentative of the product line and were examined, tested, and compared to themanufacturer's drawings. All data is on file at FM Approvals along with other documentsand correspondence applicable to this program. All testing and analysis considered appropriate was conducted and verified to be incompliance with the Standards defined in Section 1.3.4 MARKINGThe manufacturer’s metallic marking plates, as depicted on drawings 47-0444 and 47-0481, are shown below.Page 3 of 5

FM APPROVALS PROJECT NO: 30406025 REMARKSInstallation shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the NationalElectrical Code ® , ANSI/NFPA 70, as applicable.6 SURVEILLANCE AUDITThe design and manufacturing facilities at the following location is visited on a routinebasis. The facilities and quality control procedures in place have been found to besatisfactory to manufacture product identical to that tested and Approved. A Form 797shall be submitted to FM Approvals for requesting any additional manufacturing facilitieswhich are not listed below.Page 4 of 5

FM APPROVALS PROJECT NO: 3040602Design & ManufacturingSierra Instruments Inc.5 Harris Court, Building LMonterey, CA 93940USA7 MANUFACTURER’S RESPONSIBILITIES7.1 Documentation that is applicable to this approval is on file at FM Approvals and listed inthe Documentation File, Section 8, of this report. No changes of any nature shall bemade unless notice of the proposed change has been given and written authorizationobtained from FM Approvals. The Approved Product - Revision Report, FM ApprovalsForm 797, shall be forwarded to FM Approvals as notice of proposed changes.7.2 On 100% of production, the manufacturer shall inspect for the presence of the protectivegrounding terminals.7.3 On 100% of production, the AC version of the 640i and 780i Insertion and In-line MassThermal Flowmeters shall be dielectric tested. The input connections shall withstand, with no insulation breakdown, the application of 2000 Vdc, raised within 2 seconds andmaintained for 2 seconds, with respect to the protective ground conductor. Alternatively, test potentials 20% higher may be applied for at least one second. Routine dielectrictesting of the DC versions of the 640i and 780i Insertion and In-line Mass ThermalFlowmeters is waived as the voltage at which the equipment operates (24 Vdc) is belowthe minimum voltage considered hazardous live for wet locations (35 Vdc).WARNING: The dielectric test required may present a hazard of injury to personneland/or property and should only be performed under controlled conditions and bypersons knowledgeable of the potential hazards of such testing to minimize thelikelihood of shock and/or fire.8 DOCUMENTATIONSee attached blueprint report.9 CONCLUSIONThe equipment described in section 1.4 meets FM Approvals requirements. Since aduly signed Master Agreement is on file for this manufacturer, Approval is effective thedate of this report.PROJECT DATA RECORD: 3040602ATTACHMENTS: Blueprint Report - 3040602Page 5 of 5
