Cathey Middle School PTOGeneral Membership Meeting MinutesOctober 9, 2012I. The meeting was Called to Order by President Michelle Kinney @ 5:45PMII.III.Approval of MinutesTreasurer’s ReportLilia St. Clair presented briefly the reports she previously gave us at the boardmeeting.IV.President’s ReportMichelle Kinney introduced herself as a PTO President and welcomes the parents tothe school. She said we all are in the right school in the right team. She introducedthe members of the PTO board who were there at this time, the Treasurer, Spirit,Hospitality, Spring 4 a Break and Back2School Dance. (Lilia, Stephanie, Katherine,Karla and Karen).V. Principal’s ReportMr Benford introduced himself and his team: Miss C. Vallejo and Mr. Crouse. Hesaid he is very lucky to be at Cathey with outstanding teachers and students. He saidhe is happy having 97.3% of attendance, and in 8th grade there is 96.5%. He said itwould be good to have competition among the kids to improve these numbers. Hementioned the need to look for incentives for the children who need to improve theirgrades. He asked us to look for these incentives (small prizes, coupons, etc.) thatcould be used to motivate the kids.Miss Vallejo said she was happy to hear that the kids enjoyed the "Back to School"dance, she was thankful to the PTO.Mr. Crouse thanked the PTO; He said it is beneficial to the school.VI.New Business/Committee Reports*Monica mentioned she has gift cards left, that we can use at the Holiday Luncheons.a. PTO: Michelle K. said we are working well with the volunteers via emails. She saidwe appreciate the time the parents give to the PTO.1

. Spirit: On November we will have sales again, we will be selling Memorial HighSchool t-shirts and PTO can get 25% of the sales.c. Back 2 School Dance: Karen said it was a success. Volunteers, donations,everything was great, and the kids had fun.d. Box Tops: Lety brought two boxes of cereal and showed the “Box Tops”, Mr.Williams said that she needs to inform the teachers, and that maybe it would begood to let the kids know how they will benefit by bringing the box tops. He said atthis moment, teachers were not informed about the collections. The next date isOct 18th, and there will be other dates in January or February.e. Hospitality: The Teachers’ Holiday Luncheon will be on Dec 19th. Stephanieasked for volunteers to help decorate, set up for the party and to serve the food.She will be asking the parents to donate desserts that are ready to serve. Thedesserts need to be nut free.f. Spring4breaK: Karla mentioned that we have it scheduled for March 8th and witha weather day for March 22nd. We already made the deposit for the rental of 3inflatable bounces, a Dunkin booth, & a popcorn machine. We will have a meetingto organize it. Mr. Williams wants to be the connection between teachers andPTO.
