He also was a leader in establishing acitizens emergency response team and managedthe department's Explorer program,which introduced young people to policework.“Tom was just a great guy, absolutely likedby everyone," said Col. Alan Stahl, directorof corrections for St. Charles County. "Ifinmates were giving us problems, Tom couldtalk them down. He was calm. But he wasnever afraid to jump into the fray either .Officer Ballman is survived by his wife,Cynthia A. In the54 years since then, LHS has built a rich tradition of educational excellence,superior athletic achievement, widely recognized proficiencyin art, music and theater and a reputation for outstanding communityservice. Dr. Ron Helms, the current principal at LHS, is committedto honoring and paying tribute to this tradition through thecreation of Alumni Hall.Alumni Hall will be located on the first floor of the main building atthe high school, in the area formerly known as Senior Hall. Plans includeframed graduation pictures of every class lining the walls andfour wooden floor-to-ceiling display cases in the entry hall near themain door (see sketch). Dr. Helms and the Alumni Association willfill the cases with a rotating collection of LHS memorabilia.Dr. Helms has already begun collecting and framing the class graduationpictures he has been able to locate, beginning with the Class of1954. He has been unable to locate graduation pictures from severalyears, however, and that is where you may be able to help!We still need pictures from the following years: '58, '61, '62, '64,'69, '70, '71, '72, '73,'74, '75, '76, '77, '78, '79, '80, '81 and '82.If you have the group class graduation picture from any of the yearslisted, or if you would like to work with the Alumni Hall Committeeto help Dr. Helms raise the money needed to fund this project, pleasee-mail him at rhelms@lindberghschools.ws or call 314-729-2400,ext. 1600.LHS ALUMNI HALL DISPLAY CASES10
