He is focusinghis energies on continuing quality enrollment growth, enhancingresearch in areas of excellence and accentuating the programs andopportunities that prepare students for professional and personalsuccess. Foremost on the agenda is fundraising for scholarships,professorships and endowments as well as capital contributions. Thechancellor also works in Austin and Washington, D.C. to enhancefunding for all institutions.Before becoming chancellor, Hance was a partner in HanceScarborough, an Austin law firm. His firm’s primary focus was onstate and federal administrative law, regulatory law and legislativelaw. In addition, he advised clients in oil, gas and other energyrelatedmatters.Hance earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong> in 1965 and graduated from the <strong>University</strong> of<strong>Texas</strong> School of Law in 1968. He returned to Lubbock to practicelaw and teach business law at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>. In 1973, he was namedan outstanding professor at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>.Hance began a career in politics in 1974 when he won a seat inthe <strong>Texas</strong> State Senate. While in the Senate, he was one of onlyfour members who served jointly on the chamber’s two mostpowerful committees: Finance and State Affairs. Four years later,he won election to the 19th Congressional District. In 1981, Hanceauthored and won passage of President Reagan’s tax bill. Whilea member of Congress, Hance served on the Ways and MeansCommittee, the Agriculture Committee and the Science and<strong>Tech</strong>nology Committee. After Congress, Hance won election to the<strong>Texas</strong> Railroad Commission.Hance is a native of Dimmitt, <strong>Texas</strong>. He and his wife, Susie Hance,also an attorney, have five children and seven grandchildren.


SHOWCASESHOWCASEGuy BaileyGuy Bailey became the fifteenth president of <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong> onAugust 1, 2008.With the goal for <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> to become a national research university,Bailey is leading the charge for the university to boost graduateand undergraduate enrollment and increase restricted researchexpenditures, as well as meet other criteria set forth by the legislatureto ensure Tier One status for the university.“<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> is a unique and special place,” Bailey said. “It has one ofthe brightest futures in American higher education. I am honored tobe president and consider it a privilege to be a part of that future.”Prior to assuming this office, he served as chancellor of the <strong>University</strong>of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) from January 2006 until July 2008.He previously served as provost and executive vice president foracademic affairs at the <strong>University</strong> of <strong>Texas</strong>-San Antonio (UTSA) from1999 through 2005. Prior to his appointment as provost at UTSA, heserved as associate vice president for research and dean of graduatestudies at UTSA, as dean of liberal arts at the <strong>University</strong> of Nevada,Las Vegas, and as chair of the English departments at the <strong>University</strong>of Memphis and Oklahoma State <strong>University</strong>. Prior to serving as anadministrator, he taught at <strong>Texas</strong> A&M and Emory universities.Bailey is the author of about 100 books and articles, many coauthoredby his wife, Dr. Jan Tillery, <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> class of 1974. Tilleryis a proud Red Raider, as were her mother, Mary Elizabeth Tillery,class of 1948, and her father, Clarence “Tim” Tillery, outstandingoffensive end for the Red Raider football team from 1938-1941.Bailey continues to do research on language variation and change,with special emphasis on the English of <strong>Texas</strong> and the AmericanSouth, and in computational linguistics. The research on <strong>Texas</strong>English has been featured in a front-page article in the New YorkTimes, on National Public Radio, on CNN Headline News, on BBCRadio, in <strong>Texas</strong> Monthly, and in the San Antonio Express-News.David LowDavid Low is Chief Financial and Administrative Officer for the<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> Alumni Association. After graduating from the RawlsCollege of Business in 1987 with a bachelor’s in finance (he alsoearned a BBA in accounting in 2003), he went to work full timefor The MED Group, a national network of more than 380 homemedical equipment companies. Low worked for MED during collegeand, after accepting a full-time position post-graduation, worked hisway up to the position of chief financial officer and vice president offinance. Low’s responsibilities at the Alumni Association include allaspects of finance, business and human resource operations.Low is an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He also enjoyswoodworking and has done everything from framing houses tobuilding cabinetry and furniture.Taylor EighmyTaylor Eighmy, Ph.D., joined the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong> Officeof Research in June 2009. As senior vice president of research,Eighmy works closely with the faculty, department chairs, deans,the President’s Cabinet and the chancellor’s office to broaden andstrengthen the research enterprise at the university. Specific effortsare directed at enhancing scholarship opportunities for faculty andentering into strategic relationships with the Federal government,the private sector and foundations to foster investment in faculty,graduate and undergraduate research, and interdisciplinary researchprograms.Eighmy presently serves on the Fully Chartered Committee and theEnvironmental Engineering Committee of the U.S. EnvironmentalProtection Agency Science Advisory Board. Prior to June 2009,Eighmy was interim vice president for research at the <strong>University</strong>of New Hampshire and research professor of civil engineering(2007-2009), and assistant vice president for research and directorof strategic initiatives (2006-2009). His most recent researchwas supported by the FHWA, NSF, EPA, the National Oceanic andAtmospheric Administration, the European Union and the privatesector. Eighmy received his Bachelor of Science in biology from Tufts<strong>University</strong> in 1980, his Master of Science in civil engineering fromthe <strong>University</strong> of New Hampshire in 1983, and his doctorate in civilengineering from UNH in 1986.

Prior to joining <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>, Edwards servedas dean of Western Washington <strong>University</strong>’s College of Fine andPerforming Arts.A professor of art education, she has received awards includingthe Georgia Women in the Visual Arts Award, Kennesaw State<strong>University</strong>’s Distinguished Teaching Award, Georgia Board ofRegents’ Teaching Excellence Award, Georgia Art EducationEducator of the Year in Higher Education Award, and the InnovativeExcellence in Teaching, Learning, and <strong>Tech</strong>nology Award. Hermemberships include Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, theInternational Council of Fine Arts Deans, and the National ArtEducation Association.Edwards earned her doctorate in art education from Florida State<strong>University</strong>, a master’s degree from the <strong>University</strong> of Alabama, and abachelor of fine arts from Mississippi <strong>University</strong> for Women.Allen T. McInnesAllen T. McInnes was appointed dean of the Jerry S. Rawls Collegeof Business Administration on September 1, 2001. Before coming to<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>, McInnes was an oil industry executive and communityleader in Houston, serving from 1996 to 2000 as president and CEOof TETRA <strong>Tech</strong>nologies, Inc., a diversified oil field service company.From 1960 to 1993, he served in various management positionsat Tenneco Inc., a Fortune 25 company, and most recently he wasexecutive vice-president and a member of the board of directors.He now serves on the board of directors of TETRA <strong>Tech</strong>nologies andTGC Industries, a seismic acquisition company. McInnes also is amember of the board of trustees of the Kinkaid School in Houston.He has served on the board of trustees of the American GraduateSchool of International Management (Thunderbird), the advisorycouncil of the business school at the <strong>University</strong> of <strong>Texas</strong> at Austin,and was a board member of the Museum of Fine Arts in Houstonand Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston.McInnes holds a doctorate in finance from the <strong>University</strong> of <strong>Texas</strong> atAustin where he earned both a bachelor’s and a master’s of businessadministration. Additionally, he holds an advanced degree fromHarvard <strong>University</strong>.Michelle MoskosMichelle Moskos is the newly selected Director of <strong>Undergraduate</strong>Services in the Rawls College of Business. Michele Moskos began hercareer at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> in 1999 as the Director of Marketing and laterthe Director of Enrollment Services for <strong>University</strong> College. Duringher tenure at <strong>University</strong> College, she played a key leadership role inestablishing a unified presence for distance education. Michele wasalso responsible for implementing new initiatives that streamlinedprocesses, improved effectiveness and resulted in increasedenrollments. Under her direction, the marketing team earned overone dozen national awards for innovative marketing and recruitingactivities. Michele graduated from the <strong>University</strong> of Tulsa witha Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a minorin International Business. She also earned a Master of BusinessAdministration.Stephen FritzStephen Fritz assumed the interim deanship of the Honors Collegein 2010. Most recently he was President of Midland LutheranCollege in Fremont, Nebraska. He is a member of the Registry forCollege and <strong>University</strong> Presidents, a nonprofit organization whichengages former university presidents interested in service in interimleadership roles.Fritz earned his Doctoral degree in History from The <strong>University</strong> ofKentucky, a Master’s in History from Southern Illinois <strong>University</strong>and a Bachelor’s degree in English and History from Murray State<strong>University</strong>. He has also done post-doctoral study at The Queen’sCollege, Oxford <strong>University</strong>.Dr. Fritz has enjoyed a long career in senior administration includingseveral Presidencies. Among those served include Goddard College,New England College, Point Park <strong>University</strong>, North CarolinaWesleyan College and Midland Lutheran College.He is a member of The Board of Advisors, Air <strong>University</strong>, and UnitedStates Air Force. His research interests focus on Diplomacy, and TheLife and Career of David Lloyd George.


SHOWCASESHOWCASEGregory GelleneGregory Gellene is a professor and associate chair of physicalchemistry in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.His principal research interests include nuclear Symmetry Effects inChemical Reactions, ab initio quantum chemistry and atmosphericchemistry. Gellene Group research focuses on chemical dynamics ofgas phase molecules, ions, and radicals with the effort fairly evenlydivided between experimental and theoretical approaches.Gellene holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown <strong>University</strong>, andmaster’s and doctoral degrees from Cornell <strong>University</strong>.Lawrence SchovanecLawrence Schovanec was appointed dean of the College of Arts andSciences in 2010. He joined the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> faculty in 1982 and servedas chairman of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics from1999 until he was named interim arts and sciences dean in 2008.Schovanec’s research deals with the fields of biomechanical andphysiological control systems and solid mechanics, in which he hasmore than 50 publications. He has received more than $2.1 millionin external funding for his research and has spoken extensively atconferences and other professional venues. He has received thePresident’s Excellence in Teaching Award and is a member of the<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> Teaching Academy.Schovanec earned his doctorate in mathematics from Indiana<strong>University</strong>, his master’s degree from <strong>Texas</strong> A&M <strong>University</strong> and hisbachelor’s of science degree from Phillips <strong>University</strong>.Cindy AkersCindy Akers, Ed.D. is a professor and assistant dean for academic andstudent programs in the Department of Agricultural Education andCommunications. An award-winning teacher receiving outstandingteaching awards from students, peers and within the profession, Akersjoined the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> faculty in 1997.She has served as superintendent of the National FFA AgriculturalCommunications Career Development Event and Chair to <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong><strong>University</strong>’s Teaching Academy. She co-authored award-winningresearch papers and posters, serves as director of student servicesfor the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Herteaching awards include the Hemphill-Wells New Professor Excellencein Teaching Award, Presidents Excellence in Teaching Award and anational Award of Excellence in Academic Programs.Rachel BobbittRachel Bobbitt is the Student Programs Coordinator, College ofAgricultural Sciences and Natural ResourcesSince 2007, Rachel has coordinated college-wide recruitment programsand has advised the Agri-<strong>Tech</strong>sans, the official student recruitersfor the college. Rachel earned a bachelor’s degree in AgriculturalCommunications from Oklahoma State <strong>University</strong>, and master’s degreein Agricultural Education from <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong>, and is currentlyworking on a Ph.D. at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>. Rachel lives in Lubbock with herGreat Dane, Hamlet.Scott RidleyScott Ridley was appointed dean of the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> College of Educationin 2011. Prior to his appointment, he was associate dean at the MaryLou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State <strong>University</strong>.Ridley is the author and principal investigator of over $111 millionin grants. These include a $ 33.8 million Teacher Quality Partnershipgrant awarded in 2009 and a $43.4 million Teacher Incentive Fundgrant awarded in 2010.As an associate professor of educational psychology at ASU, he taughtcourses and published research on learning and motivation theory,action research and classroom assessment. He received his master’sand doctoral degrees from the <strong>University</strong> of <strong>Texas</strong> at Austin.Audra MorseAudra Morse is the associate dean for undergraduate studies for theWhitacre College of Engineering and an associate professor in theDepartment of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Her professionalexperience focuses on water and wastewater treatment, specificallywater reclamation systems and the fate of personal products intreatment systems.Morse is part of a NASA research group investigating the benefits ofmembrane-aerated biological reactors. She serves on professionalorganization committees including the American Society of CivilEngineers (ASCE) Committee on Faculty Development and ASCE EWRIHealth and Water Quality Committee. She is a reviewer for manyprofessional journals and served as an assistant mentor and mentorcapacity in ASCE ExCEEd Workshops as well as the lead faculty advisorof <strong>Texas</strong>’s <strong>Tech</strong> ASCE Student Chapter.

Shereceived the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> Chancellor’s Council Distinguished TeachingAward and the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award. She has aPh.D. in Civil Engineering from <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>.Shelli CrockettShelli Crockett joined the Whitacre College of Engineering in 2006as the director of Cooperative Education. Over the last 6 years, herposition has expanded and the Engineering Opportunities Center(EOC) was created. The EOC provides many student services forengineering students, including career development, internationalopportunities, scholarships, student organization support, theplanning of large college-wide events and visits with prospectivestudents & their families.Shelli is originally from Tangier, VA, a small island off the coast ofVirginia. She received her bachelor’s of business administrationfrom Salisbury <strong>University</strong> where she was a very involved studentleader. Those experiences led her to <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> 12 years ago! Shehas worked with students in various roles on campus. She the verybusy mother of a 5-year old and in her spare time enjoys reading,shopping, home projects and TTU sporting events.Lynn HuffmanDr. Huffman Associate Dean of the College of Human Sciences, hasbeen a faculty member at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> since 1980. She is an awardwinning teacher and a charter member of the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> TeachingAcademy. She received several awards including the CHRIE HowardB. Meek Award for lifetime contributions/ outstanding service tohospitality education.Research activity has included principal or co-investigator on 10grants totaling $616,600. She has chaired and served on over 50graduate committees and has numerous professional presentations,refereed articles, and book chapters.Shane C. BlumShane Blum is Chairperson and Associate Professor in theCollege of Human Sciences Dr. Blum teaches undergraduateand graduate courses in hotel management and human resourcemanagement. His research focuses on organizational behaviorissues such as leadership, organizational culture, and employee jobsatisfaction. Dr. Blum is originally from New Jersey and receivedhis undergraduate degree from the <strong>University</strong> of Massachusetts,Amherst; his MBA from San Diego State <strong>University</strong>; and Ph.D. fromThe <strong>University</strong> of Nevada, Las Vegas.Marijane R. WernsmanMarijane R. Wernsman, Assistant Dean for Students Affairs in theCollege of Mass Communications (soon to be the College of Media &Communication), received her Ph.D. in English from the <strong>University</strong>of Tennessee-Knoxville in 1986 and has taught undergraduateand graduate courses in American literature in the Department ofEnglish and undergraduate and honors courses in public relationsin the College of Mass Communications for 32 years. Althoughshe began her career at TTU as a lecturer in English, she wasAssistant Dean in the Graduate School with duties in studentservices and thesis/dissertation review from 1982 to August, 1998.She edited over a dozen volumes of the Conference of SouthernGraduate Schools Proceedings as the regional Publications Chairand served for five years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Associationof <strong>Texas</strong> Graduate Schools. Her literary research has focusedon Henry James and related authors. She is a playwright andvideo scriptwriter, served as dramaturge for several TTU Theatreproductions, and served as managing director of the WindmillPlaywrights Festival. She received an M.F.A. in theater managementand playwriting from TTU in 2007; her one-act play, “Mrs. Rex,”was produced by the TTUT Raider Red One-Acts in 1999.Emily BalkeEmily Balke is the Coordinator of Student Recruitment and AlumniRelations, College of Mass Communications, TTU grad 201 PublicRelations, from Amarillo, <strong>Texas</strong>


SHOWCASESHOWCASE<strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong> ManagementDr. Ethan Logan, Executive Director of <strong>Admissions</strong>With over 15 years of professional work in higher education, Ethanbegan his work in higher education administration working in avariety of different roles and departments in Student Affairs. In2008, Ethan had the opportunity to transfer and work in enrollmentmanagement. With a tremendous staff and sustained leadershipsupport, <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong> has contributed to <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong><strong>University</strong>’s successive increase in enrollment every year since2008. Ethan has a great passion for the philosophy and science ofenrollment management and is privileged to be able to work in thisfield at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>. Ethan is a <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> Alum, with three degreesfrom the institution. Ethan and his wife Micah are both nativeLubbock residents. They are both patrons of the arts and involvedin various aspects of this community. Their love of Lubbock and<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> provides tremendous enthusiasm and energy for workingto make this great institution better.Jamie Hansard, Director of Recruitment and MarketingJamie Hansard is the director of recruitment and marketing for<strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong>. Her journey in higher education began15 years ago as an admissions counselor where she discovered herpassion to help others achieve their educational goals. She receivedher bachelor's and master's degrees at Midwestern State <strong>University</strong>and is currently working on her Ph.D. at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong>.Jamie's efforts to serve her profession are exhibited through herservice at the state and national level. She currently serves as theVice President for <strong>Admissions</strong> for the <strong>Texas</strong> Association of CollegiateRegistrars and Admission Officers.Toni Riley, Assistant Director of RecruitmentToni has been with <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong> since 2006 when shebegan her career in higher education as an admissions counselor.She has worn many hats in the office formerly serving as the West<strong>Texas</strong> manager and working with student populations such as topscholar and out of state. Toni currently oversees the managementof both West <strong>Texas</strong> and transfer recruitment as well as the VisitorsCenter. Toni is our international expert as she was raised in MexicoCity and has lived in four other countries. She and her husband,Matt, both received their bachelors’ degrees from <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> and arecurrently working on their masters’.Brandon Taylor, Customer Relationship ManagerBrandon Taylor has served as the Customer Relationship Managersince November 2011 for the Office of <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong>.His primary focus is leading the department’s student telecounselingprogram and the implementation of a newly purchased contentmanagement system. Taylor’s career in the Office of <strong>Undergraduate</strong><strong>Admissions</strong> began as a student assistant during the spring of 2008.Since then, he has assisted in several areas of the departmentleading up to his current position. Taylor sees it as a great privilegeto work for his alma mater where he received a Bachelor of Sciencein 2010 and is currently seeking a Master’s in Education with anemphasis in Higher Education Administration. Taylor is happilymarried to a fellow Red Raider, and is currently making a regulardonation to <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>’s School of Law, where his wife has recentlycompleted her second year of law school.J.D. Gragg, Transfer ManagerWith a background in advising and a passion for helping others,J. D. hit the ground running as he began managing our transferrecruitment. J. D. is a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and is veryfamiliar with everything involved in making the move to <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>and Lubbock. J. D. moved to Lubbock with his wife, Sara for herto pursue her Ph.D. in Food Science. They have a 2 year old sonnamed Barrett who keeps them very busy! With the move to <strong>Texas</strong>and Lubbock after spending their entire lives in Nebraska, they weresurprised with how quickly Lubbock became home.JoAnn Mitchell, Visitors Center and West <strong>Texas</strong> ManagerJoAnn is a graduate of TTU, with a degree in Psychology andenjoys all aspects of being part of the Red Raider Family! She isthe manager of the Visitors Center and the West <strong>Texas</strong> Recruitmentteam. She also supervises the academic college student recruitersserving as liaisons between academics and admissions. JoAnn servesas an advisor to the Student Ambassador program and is a memberof the Spirit Squad Committee at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>. She oversees the dailyoperations of the Visitors Center (information sessions, campustours, VIPs, Groups, etc) and on-campus visit programs (FootballFridays, Admitted Student Days, <strong>Tech</strong>san Previews-Jr visits).


SHOWCASESHOWCASEMegan Myatt, System Recruitment and Relations CoordinatorMegan Myatt is responsible for prospective student recruitmentfor the Office of the Chancellor. She manages the Chancellor’s TopScholar program, a strategic recruitment initiative that activelyrecruits students who have been admitted to the university witha score above 1500 on their SAT. She also works very closely withthe Chancellor to recruit many special populations of prospectivestudents. Prior to joining the office, Megan was a recruiter for<strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong> at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Megan is agraduate of <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> with a bachelor’s degree in public relations.She’s currently pursuing her master’s degree in interdisciplinarystudies. Her husband, Jake Myatt, is also a <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> graduate anda farmer in Hockley County.Katie Harris, Houston ManagerKatie graduated from <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> with a Bachelor’s degree in PublicRelations in 2007, and has worked for the Office of <strong>Admissions</strong>, inthe Houston Regional Center, ever since. While at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>, shewrote articles for The Daily Toreador and La Ventana, the campusnewspaper and yearbook. She is from the Houston area, so she findsit easy to relate to students and parents about life in Lubbock . Sheis an active board member for the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> Alumni Association’sHouston Chapter, which helps raise scholarship money for studentsin the Greater Houston area. Her favorite thing about working for<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> is helping students fulfill their college aspirations.Jason Hale, Dallas ManagerJason Hale serves as our Dallas Regional Center Manager for theoffice of <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong>. He has over nine years ofexperience in admissions and recruitment. Jason “loves helpingothers realize their potential whether that be prospective studentsor working with other staff members.” He joined the <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong>family in 2010 and feels like <strong>Tech</strong> is the perfect fit for him. “Theoutstanding academic programs along with the school spirit andtraditions at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> make for a great working and learningenvironment.” He is already recruiting the class of 2020 startingwith his nine-year-old son, Ty.Julian Olivas, Austin ManagerJulian Olivas has worked in <strong>Undergraduate</strong> <strong>Admissions</strong> at <strong>Texas</strong><strong>Tech</strong> <strong>University</strong> since the spring of 2004. He has served in variousroles including admissions counselor, visitors center manager and iscurrently the manager of the Austin Regional Center. Julian attended<strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Tech</strong> where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’sdegrees. Even though Julian resides in Austin you can find him onthe <strong>Tech</strong> campus most weekends during football season as he cheerson our Red Raiders.
