َُِّٰ<strong>Mother</strong> <strong>of</strong> all <strong>Evils</strong>from impure things, and Allah has also ordered us torefrain from it.5. It is Kufr to consider Khamr (alcohol) as Ḥalāl (lawful), asit would be refusal <strong>of</strong> an absolute injunction <strong>of</strong> theGlorious Quran.6. ‘Ḥad’ (<strong><strong>Islami</strong>c</strong> punishment) will be meted out to the onefound guilty <strong>of</strong> drinking alcohol, even if he has notsuffered intoxication.7. Once Khamr (alcohol) is prepared, it does not change itscomposition upon further cooking i.e. it remains Ḥarām.8. However, according to the Ḥanafī school <strong>of</strong> thought, it ispermissible to convert Khamr (alcohol) into vinegar.(Al-Tafsīrāt-tul-Aḥmadīyyaĥ, pp. 369)Ten pro<strong>of</strong>s for the impermissibility <strong>of</strong> alcohol from‘Allāmaĥ Shāmīَعَاٰرمحة ا تهَلَيۡعَ ۡ‘Allāmaĥ Shāmī has quoted ten pro<strong>of</strong>s for theimpermissibility <strong>of</strong> alcohol which are as follows:1. Alcohol has been mentioned along with gambling, idolsand arrow-betting (a kind <strong>of</strong> gambling), and these all areḤarām.2. Alcohol was declared as impure, and impure things arealways Ḥarām.3. Alcohol has been declared satanic act and satanic acts areḤarām.15
