In the singing ofhymns, we are able to exalt the mystery of God’s abundant grace and, at the same moment, find our own spirits becoming attuned toGod’s spirit.”These words from the Foreword to our new hymnal express beautifully why we find such fulfillment in the singing ofhymns. Tonight’s worship experience serves as an opportunity for us not only to dedicate new hymnals for use to theglory of God but also to celebrate the meaning of hymns in the life of believers. Hymns instruct and inspire. Hymnscommunicate eternal truths to us and through us. Hymns are an effective means of joining together with others whoshare our faith. Hymns are a way for us to be involved in worship, fellowship, ministry and mission.I love the phrase used in the title of our new hymnal—Celebrating Grace. What is more amazing than God’s grace?This worship book will help our congregation learn to celebrate God’s grace with vibrancy and great effectiveness as wesing songs we already know and love and also as we find new expressions of our faith.Our hearts are full of gratitude for the many persons who have helped bring us to the point of tonight’s dedicationservice. Thank you, donors, for the meaningful ways you have chosen to honor or memorialize persons you love.Thank you, Music and Worship Committee, for the many hours spent praying, planning and working as you led ourcongregation to choose this hymnal and make it functional in our church. Readers are John & Diane Gordon.SPECIAL APPRECIATIONWe express our deep thanks to the excellent work done by The Music and Worship Committee in the successful implementation ofour new hymnal. The committee has been at work since 2009 on this project, giving careful consideration to several potentialhymnals before choosing Celebrating Grace: Hymnal for Baptist Worship. They planned and administered the campaign to purchasethe hymnals and then oversaw the details that culminate tonight in this festival of dedication.The Music and Worship Committee members over the last three year terms include current committee members Bill Stone (Chair),BJ Boyanton, Bertie Bramm, David Leviner and Bruce Zeiger. Others who served on the committee and have rotated off are BilliePerkins, Susan Field, Jim Reeder and Nancy Morton. Amanda Allen and Jeremy Wilkerson from our Music Ministry Staff havebeen a part of the committee process, giving input into the selection and implementation of the hymnal, and Elizabeth Hostetter andBilly Orton have served as the primary guides and resource personnel for the committee’s work.A vital element of the process has been the proofreading that was needed for the more than 1400 names involved in the donations ofhymnals. Those who served in this area along with the committee members were Sue McElyea, Debbie Coulter, Dottie Richardson,and Kathy Lane.Several of our choirs have been of immense help. The Hallelujah Choir sorted loose leaf hymnal sheets for the choir folder files andprepared the hymnals by breaking the bindings. The Sanctuary Choir placed the labels in the hymnals. The Youth Choir (led bysponsors Phillip Roberts and Stuart Fowler) has been responsible for getting the new hymnals in the pew racks.Finally, appreciation is expressed to our Music and Worship Ministry Assistants, Lea Anne Hardy and Laura Roberts. Theirtireless work on the myriad details involved in this project has facilitated not only the end result of a hymnal being in your handstonight but also the significant process which was able to thrive because of their administrative support.
