Brackets Honor Four of Game’s GreatsBen Hogan Bobby Jones Gary Player Sam SneadBeginning in 2003, the brackets at the World GolfChampionships-Accenture Match Play Championship began honoringfour of golf’s greatest players—Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, Gary Playerand Sam Snead. The 64-man field is divided into four 16-playerbrackets named for the four World Golf Hall of Fame members.Players in each of the four brackets will be seeded No. 1through No. 16, with the top-ranked golfer playing the No. 16 seed,No. 2 pairing off against No. 15, No. 3 vs. No. 14, and so forth in thefirst round. In this format, the highest-ranked player from the OfficialWorld Golf Ranking will be the top seed in the Bobby Jones bracketand will play the 64th-ranked player, who will also be seeded in thatbracket. The next-highest-ranked player will be the top seed in theGary Player bracket, while the third- and fourth-highest-ranked playerswill be the top seeds in the Snead and Hogan brackets, respectively.Hogan, Jones, Player and Snead were four of the greatestgolfers in history and were all inducted into the World Golf Hall ofFame’s inaugural class of 1974. The winner of the Accenture MatchPlay Championship will receive the Walter Hagen Cup, named afterone of the game’s greatest match play players.The 2013 Accenture Match Play Championship will be heldFeb. 18-24 at The Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, AZ.
