Partners in theEnvironmentWestern New York Environmental AllianceAn alliance by definition is a relationship based on affinity in interests, nature or qualities. The Community Foundation likes to define alliance as a web of partnerships committed to acommon goal—and that’s exactly what the Western New York Environmental Alliance (WNYEA) is.It is a blossoming group of over 80 environmental organizations in Western New York all workingtogether to advocate for our region’s environment. The Community Foundation was honored bythe Environmental Protection Agency with anEnvironmental Quality Award for achievementsin protecting public health and the environment.U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand nominated theCommunity Foundation for this honor. To share news and educate the community aboutour region’s environment, the WNYEA utilizes theGrowWNY.org website. The work of the WNYEAand GrowWNY is made possible thanks toour donors, sponsors and a growing partnershipwith the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The WNYEA has developed and approved a SharedAction Agenda for 2013, which will guide its effortsin education and advocacy. The agenda ranges frompromoting energy conservation to encouraging greenjob development in Western New York. To see the fullagenda, visit GrowWNY.org/shared-agenda.One of the most popular features available to the public on GrowWNY.org is an interactive Go OutsideMap that showcases our region’s natural assets. Visitors can choose an activity and an area theywant to explore and the interactive map will list all the options for them to enjoy their favorite outdooractivities. In 2012, GrowWNY created a printed Go Outside Map in partnership with Wegmans.Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown and Niagara Falls Mayor Paul Dyster attended the launch of the map onthe Buffalo waterfront in July. The free maps are available at Western New York Wegmans and dozensof other local businesses and organizations.Partners in WNY Environmental AllianceProgram PartnersMembers··Adirondack Mountain ClubNiagara Frontier Chapter··Alliance for the Great Lakes··AWARE (Association for Wild AnimalRehabilitation and Education)··Buffalo Audubon Society··Buffalo CarShare··Buffalo First!··Buffalo Local Initiatives Support Corp.··Buffalo Museum of Science··Buffalo Niagara Green Expo··Buffalo Niagara RIVERKEEPER··Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy··Buffalo Ornithological Society··Buffalo ReUSE··Buffalo Urban Outdoor Education Foundation··Center for Environmental Information··Citizens Campaign for the Environment··Citizens for Regional Transit··Clean Air Coalition of Western New York··Clean Production Action··Coalition for Economic Justice··Coalition on West Valley Nuclear Wastes··Community Action Organization of Erie County, Inc.··Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chautauqua County/WNY Energy $mart Communities··Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County··Cornell University ILR School Laborand Environmental Programs··Curtiss Urban Farm Foundation (CUFF)··Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communitiesand Civic Engagement··Engineers for a Sustainable World—University at Buffalo Chapter··Environmental Justice Action Group of WNY··Environmental Network··Erie County Environmental Education Institute··Family Environmental Health Resources··Field & Fork Network··Friends of Reinstein Nature Preserve, Inc.··Friends of Tifft Nature Preserve, Inc.··Friends of Times Beach Nature Preserve··Grassroots Gardens of Buffalo··Green Buffalo Runner··Green Gold Development Corp.··Go Bike Buffalo··Groundwork Buffalo··Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Buffalo··Jamestown Audubon Society, Inc.··Keep Western New York Beautiful··League of Women Voters of Buffalo Niagara (LWVBN)··Little Lake George, Inc.··Lt.
