Lectures:I will use a powerpoint format and the diagrams I use are from the book. I will not be giving outmy powerpoints. Good note-taking is a skill that must be achieved in order to be successful inacademia.Course Work: Homework, Quizzes, and ReadingsThis class is a building block for your academic career, whether your career will lead you downthe medical field, scientific field, or maybe even space. Working hard and doing what is asked ofyou are certain ways of ensuring your success not only in this class but your future endeavors.Applying yourself to the course work will only help. There will be a quiz given each Thursday based on the previous week’s lectures, readings, andhomework, these will NOT be open book. The readings posted for each lecture must be readbefore each lecture. The homework will be collected every Tuesday and must include first andlast name, date, and homework number. You will be given credit for just doing the homeworkbut to get the full amount of points I will be checking a few undisclosed problems.Homework will be posted two weeks in advance, check the website for the assignments. Boxyour answers so they will be easy for me to grade.Website:The website is going to be a work in progress depending on how useful it is. You need to have aWNC email account to gain access to the website. Several things pertaining to class will beposted to the website and it would be useful to check and make suggestions where you see fit. Iwill be molding it throughout the semester based on our needs.Lab:Pre-lab question will be collected at the beginning of each lab. Students must be prepared byreading the entire lab before lab. This will allow for a smoother lab experience and for studentsto get out on time. The Report Sheet for each lab will be due the following week. In the middleand end of the semester students will be asked to write up one lab, for a total of two lab reports.Further information will be given at the time.Suggestions:This is a rigorous course, I’ve assigned the readings and homework as tools that will not onlyhelp you come finals, but also help you in the long run in your intended career and acquiringbetter studying habits. The secret to getting the grade you deserve is to study and repetition. I’veassigned the problems with this in mind. There will required reading each week I know that it might be tempting to skip this portion, butremember that I cannot present everything, these lectures highlight important material and thetextbook will elaborate on materials presented and can only further your understanding. Youspent money on your books; put your money to use. There are tutors available in the AcademicSkills Center located in Bristlecone open on Monday-Thursday from 9am-8pm and Friday-Saturday 9am-4pm.Dr. Kim 2
