On original ribbon with safety-catch brooch.Founded in 1890, this society requires direct descent from <strong>the</strong> Emperor Charlemagne<strong>and</strong> currently has approximately 2,400 members.85. USA – Lot <strong>of</strong> 5 +: U.S. Navy China Service Medal, crimp brooch; Naval ReserveMeritorious Service Medal, crimp brooch; National Defense Service Medal; KuwaitLiberation Medal in Graco Industries box <strong>of</strong> issue dated 5/97; Disabled AmericanVeterans <strong>of</strong> World War Delegate Badge – Ladies Auxiliary Department, Rhode Isl<strong>and</strong>Annual Convention 1938. Note with medal says it is related to WW1 veteran Frank A.Grabert; plus 2 ribbon bars.86. USA – Purple Heart. World War 2 posthumous award with distinctive <strong>of</strong>ficial h<strong>and</strong>engraving to “JAMES T. WARE.” On original ribbon with slot brooch. Research identified <strong>the</strong>recipient as a PFC with <strong>the</strong> 311th Infantry Regiment, 78 th Infantry Division, U.S. Army. Ware was born 15 Dec 1925 atAbbeville, Georgia. He was killed in action on 30 January 1945 at Kesternich, Germany. Initially buried 3 Feb 1945 in <strong>the</strong>U.S. Military Cemetery at Margraten, Holl<strong>and</strong>, he was disinterred at <strong>the</strong> request <strong>of</strong> his mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>and</strong> returned to Abbeville,Georgia <strong>for</strong> reburial. The 311th Infantry Regiment had been attached to <strong>the</strong> 8th Armored Division in <strong>the</strong> Hurtgen Foreston 10 December 1944. On <strong>the</strong> 13th <strong>the</strong> regiment smashed into Simmerath, Witzerath, <strong>and</strong> Bickerath <strong>and</strong> was fighting <strong>for</strong>Kesternich when Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt launched his counter<strong>of</strong>fensive in <strong>the</strong> Monschau area on 18December. The 78th Division held <strong>the</strong> area it had taken from <strong>the</strong> Siegfried Line against <strong>the</strong> violent German attacksthroughout <strong>the</strong> winter. On <strong>the</strong> day that Ware was killed <strong>the</strong> Division attacked <strong>and</strong> took Kesternich. With copy IndividualDeceased Personnel File.87. NETHERLANDS – Cross <strong>for</strong> Justice <strong>and</strong> Freedom, with bar “KOREA 1950.” Ondistinctive Dutch ribbon mount by Konlink Luke Begeer, Voorkhoten.94. IMPERIAL GERMANY – Baden: 1902 Jubilee Medal. Bronze medal <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> 50thanniversary <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ascension <strong>of</strong> Gr<strong>and</strong> Duke Friedrich I von Baden.95. GREAT BRITAIN – Naval Long Service <strong>and</strong> Good Conduct Medal, George V, 1 st Type.Officially impressed to “K.22548 E. DONOVAN, STO. 1 H.M.S. TIGER.” H.M.S. Tiger was abattle cruiser launched in 1913. Participated in <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Dogger Bank <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Battle<strong>of</strong> Jutl<strong>and</strong> in 1916, w<strong>here</strong> she was only lightly damaged despite suffering many hits byGerman shells. Apart from providing distant cover during <strong>the</strong> Second Battle <strong>of</strong>Heligol<strong>and</strong> Bight in 1917, she spent <strong>the</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> war on uneventful patrols in <strong>the</strong>North Sea. The ship was decommissioned <strong>and</strong> sold <strong>for</strong> scrap in 1932.96. IMPERIAL GERMANY – Hannover. Campaign Medal <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> Battle <strong>of</strong> Langensalza, 27June 1866. Officially impressed to “J. VOLHERS III.” The Battle <strong>of</strong> Langensalza took placeduring <strong>the</strong> German war <strong>of</strong> 1866 when Hanover, along with Baden, Bavaria, Saxony <strong>and</strong>o<strong>the</strong>r states, fought with Austria against Prussia. The Hanoverian army achieved a raredefeat <strong>of</strong> Prussian <strong>for</strong>ces but, unable to join with <strong>the</strong> Bavarian army to <strong>the</strong> south, were<strong>the</strong>n surrounded by numerically superior Prussian <strong>for</strong>ces <strong>and</strong> obliged to surrender.After <strong>the</strong> war, against <strong>the</strong> wishes <strong>of</strong> its people, <strong>the</strong> kingdom was annexed by Prussia <strong>and</strong>its king sent into exile. The medal is thus <strong>the</strong> last award issued by <strong>the</strong> kingdom.97. GREAT BRITAIN – Imperial Service Medal, George V coinage head. Officially named to“ALFRED GARMONSWAY.” On original ribbon on pin brooch <strong>and</strong> in case <strong>of</strong> issue.With copy London Gazette notification from 14 December 1923 indicating thatGarmonsway was a Sorter in <strong>the</strong> London Postal Service.98. NETHERLANDS – New Guinea Commemoration Cross with bar “1962.” Awarded tomilitary personnel who served in <strong>the</strong> conflict <strong>of</strong> New Guinea in <strong>the</strong> period 1961-1962.The medal was awarded to military personnel serving <strong>for</strong> at least 3 months in <strong>the</strong>confrontation with Indonesia. The clasp “1962” indicates that <strong>the</strong> recipient wasinvolved in actual combat in 1962. On distinctive Dutch ribbon mount by v. Wielik in<strong>the</strong> Haag.99. USA – Lifesaving Benevolent Association <strong>of</strong> New York Bronze Lifesaving Medal(planchet only) engraved naming to “WILLIAM H. McKENNA” <strong>for</strong> saving human life inperil.
