DRAFT <strong>CCSDS</strong> RECOMMENDED STANDARD FOR CONJUNCTION DATA MESSAGESANNEX ESECURITY, SANA, AND PATENT CONSIDERATIONS(INFORMATIVE)E1SECURITY CONSIDERATIONSE1.1 ANALYSIS OF SECURITY CONSIDERATIONSThis subsection presents the results of an analysis of security considerations applied to thetechnologies specified in this Recommended Standard.E1.2 CONSEQUENCES OF NOT APPLYING SECURITY TO THETECHNOLOGYThe consequences of not applying security to the systems and networks on which thisRecommended Standard is implemented could include potential loss, corruption, and theft ofdata. Because these messages are used in collision avoidance analyses and potentialmaneuvers, the consequences of not applying security to the systems and networks on whichthis Recommended Standard is implemented could include compromise or loss of themission if malicious tampering of a particularly severe nature occurs.E1.3 POTENTIAL THREATS AND ATTACK SCENARIOSPotential threats or attack scenarios include, but are not limited to, (a) unauthorized access tothe programs/processes that generate and interpret the messages, and (b) unauthorized accessto the messages during transmission between exchange partners. Protection fromunauthorized access during transmission is especially important if the mission utilizes openground networks such as the Internet to provide ground-station connectivity for the exchangeof data formatted in compliance with this Recommended Standard. It is stronglyrecommended that potential threats or attack scenarios applicable to the systems andnetworks on which this Recommended Standard is implemented be addressed by themanagement of those systems and networks.E1.4 DATA PRIVACYPrivacy of data formatted in compliance with the specifications of this RecommendedStandard should be assured by the systems and networks on which this RecommendedStandard is implemented.<strong>CCSDS</strong> <strong>508.0</strong>-R-1 Page E-1 March 2012
