Jihadlove to her child, that will get rid of the child’sbad tendencies. In the same way, we must helpothers to remove the evil qualities, teach themgood qualities, and lead them to the state wherethey can become the princes of God.My brothers, if we act with love and unity, wecan dispel all our evil qualities and live as onefamily, as one race, as children bowing to oneLord. 11 Once we understand this truth, we willbecome good children. But as long as we donot understand and do not cast off the evil,then we are bad children.Of course, when you cut these qualities, itmight hurt. It might cause difficulty andsuffering. When a child is cut, the pain makeshim cry. He may scream and fight or maybeeven bite you. He may shout, “I will kill you!”But you must embrace him with love andpatiently explain things to him, alwaysremembering that the qualities within the childare the enemy, not the child himself.My brothers, man has two forms, each withits own set of qualities. The war is between thesetwo forms. One is composed of the five elementsand is ruled by the mind; it lives in the kingdomof illusion, creation, and hell . The other is apure form made of Allah’s light, of Hisresplendence and purity. That form lives in thekingdom of heaven, in the world of pure souls.When man dwells within this good form, hespeaks and acts in good ways. When he movesinto the form of the elements, he speaks andacts in evil ways. One body exists within him ina formless state; the other exists outside as hisform and shadow. These two bodies haveopposite qualities and duties.The heart also has two sections: one is theinnermost heart 12 and the other is the mind.The mind is connected to the fifteen worlds,which are ruled by the energies of earth, fire,water, air, and ether. Just as these five elementsare mixed together in the earth and in the sky,they are also mingled within the body.The fifteen worlds are connected to all ofcreation, to all forms. Seven of the worlds areabove, seven are below, and the fifteenth world,which is-the center, is the mind. It is there, inthe world ruled by the mind, that the holy warmust be waged. The mind and the energies ofthe elements roam up and down throughoutthe fifteen worlds, manifesting as the fourhundred trillion, ten thousand miracles thatcreate differences and divisions among men.We have to fight against all these energies in allThese prophets cameto teach us how towage holy war againstthe inner enemy. Thisbattle within should befought with faith,certitude, anddetermination, with thekalimah, and with theQuran. No blood isshed in this war.Holding the sword ofwisdom, faith, certitude,and justice, we mustcut away the evil forcesthat keep charging at usin different forms. Thisis the inner jihad.fifteen worlds. This is the major battle. Once wecomplete this war, then we are ready to beginour work within the innermost heart.Masjid Khadijah 73
