SinceJames Bryan died around 1798 and left sons that required guardianship as late as1810. Jesse Bryan still required guardianship in 1808 indicating that he wasborn no earliar than 1790. John Bryan still required guardianship in 1810indicating that he was born no earlier than 1792. Assuming that James Bryanwas between twenty years of age and thirty years of age when Jesse Bryan wasborn, results with James’ birthdate being between 1760 and 1770. James Bryanmay have married Margaret Johnson on December 8, 1790 in Rowan County,North Carolina. John Johnston was the bondsman for this marriage (note thatJohn “Johnston” later was a guardian for one of the sons of James Bryan whichstrengthens this connection). Another supporting document can be found inWilliamson County, Tennessee. In the estate records of John Johnston / Johnsonwhich was probated in April, 1816, “the heirs of James Bryan” are mentioned inthe estate records. Although this marriage to Margaret Johnson is very plausible,it should still be considered speculative as there were several men named JamesBryan living in Rowan County, North Carolina. According to the loose estatepapers, James Bryan was the father of at least two sons:. . . Jesse Bryan, b. 1790 - 1798. . . John Bryan, b. 1792 - 1798James Bryan (1.2) may have lived and died in Davidson County, Tennessee. There is will of James Bryan, dated 1797 in Davidson County, Tennessee. Itstates: “Being in weak and low state of health but of perfect mind and memory .. . do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament.” This will laterstates: “I give to my well beloved wife Marget Bryan, the tract of land I live
