OnFebruary 23, 1805, “Johnza” Orton married Rachael Campbell in RowanCounty, North Carolina. Rachael is the daughter of Joseph Campbell andRebecca Campbell. In 1820, “John Z. Orten” was living in Orange County,Indiana. John and Rachel Orton were the parents of three children:. . . Bexey Orton (1.5.3.1), b. January 15, 1815, Orange County, Indiana. . . Rachel Orton, b. March 25, 1819, Orange County, Indiana. . . Caroline Orton, b. 1820, Orange County, IndianaRachel (Campbell) Orton died between 1820 (birth of her last child) and 1830(second marriage of John Orton). On February 8, 1830, “Johnzey” Ortonmarried a second time to Susannah Farris in Orange County, Indiana. SusannahFarris could be the widow of Nathan Farris who married Susannah Pinnick onDecember 11, 1823 in Orange County, Indiana. In 1830, “Johnzey Ortan” wasliving in Orange County, Indiana. On August 5, 1834, “John Zey” Ortonpurchased eighty acres of federal land in Perry County, Illinois. In 1840,“Johnzey Orton” was living in Perry County, Illinois. On February 25, 1841,Johnzey and Susana Orton signed the marriage bond of John A. Heape andMariah Jane Farris (possible of daughter of Susannah by her first marriage) inPerry County, Illinois. Johnzie and Susannah Orton were the parents of fourchildren:. . . Ninian E. Orton, b. 1832, Orange County, Indiana. . . Emeline Orton, b. 1834, Perry County, Illinois. . . May 20, 1839, Perry County, IllinoisSusannah (Farris) Orton died between February 25, 1841 (when she signed amarriage bond) and June 11, 1843 (when Johnzie Orton married his third wife).On June 11, 1843, Johnzie Orton married a third time to Sarah Jones in PerryCounty, Illinois. Sarah (Jones) Orton died between 1843 (when she marriedJohnzie Orton) and 1850 (as she does not appear in the 1850 census withJohnzey Orton. In 1850, “Johnzey Orton” was living with several of his childrenin Perry County, Illinois. In 1850, the Agricultural Census of Perry County,Illinois lists that “Jonzey” Orton had listed the following assets: 160 acres ofimproved land, 120 acres of unimproved land, $1,000 cash value of farm, $100value of farming implements, six horses, eight “milch” cows, two working oxen,thirteen other cattle, thirty sheep, fifty swine, $410 value of livestock, onehundred sixty bushels of wheat, one thousand bushels of Indian corn, one poundsof butter, $20 of home made manufacture. On November 3, 1853, “Jonzey”Orton married a fourth time to Mrs. Elizabeth Jones in Perry County, Illinois.Johnzie Orton died on March 8, 1855 in Perry County, Illinois. On September11, 1838, Rachel Orton married Samuel McElvain in Perry County, Illinois.Samuel was born in 1814. Rachel (Orton) McElvain died on April 9, 1840 andwas buried in the Old Haggard Cemetery in Perry County, Illionois. On January1, 1849, Caroline Orton married Lewis J. Bridges in Pery County, Illinois. OnMay 29, 1872, Ninian Orton married Nancy J. Phillips in Richland County,Illinois. On February 6, 1853, Emeline Orton married Marion Tefertiller inPerry County, Illinois.
