A superb buffet lunch followed, and theneveryone was entertained with board and card games ofall descriptions. A different style of card tombola raised£80 for the MS <strong>Society</strong>.Austin J CowlesAustin J Cowles, Secretary of Court ‘<strong>Foresters</strong>’Home’ in Norwich, passed away in June.Austin’s family had strong links to the <strong>Society</strong> –his father was Chief Ranger, his uncle Secretary,and three cousins were on the ManagementCommittee. From 1946 to 2010 Austin gave over60 years’ service at branch, district, regional andarea levels. He leaves a wife, Jean, son Adrian,daughter Debbie and four grandchildren, towhom we extend our deepest sympathies.east anglia NORTHCoffee and cakeCourt ‘Motteux’ organised acoffee morning at Hillington,King’s Lynn, in aid of theMND Association. Great funwas had by everyone, and thecake stall emptied very quickly! £130 was raised, whichwas a good result and meant even more to the members,as their Sub Chief Ranger has MND. Thank you to all whosupported the event.CentralChatsworth visitThirty-one members andfriends visited ChatsworthHouse in August, hometo some of the country’sAt the start ofthe tourmost spectacular grounds and gardens. They wanderedalong the five miles of walks and admired the Emperorfountain and 300-year-old cascade. The house itselfcontains some spectacular treasures collected by the familyover the centuries. Everyone left with aching legs, and asense of wonder at Chatsworth’s splendour.Greater Londoneast london & essexYoung at HeartLucy Clementsorganised anotherchildren’s Youngat Heart event atthe IRDSA Hall inBarkingside.It was very braveof her, especially asshe volunteered todress up as MickeyMouse and walkaround the localstreets to persuadeparents to bring their children andjoin in. It was the hottest day ofthe year and poor Lucy must havebeen melting in that costume,but she was very patient with allthe children who came up andcuddled her or wanted their phototaken with ‘Mickey’. Back18 Autumn 2010 MiscellanyAll the young oneshad a super dayin the hall, children enjoyed facepainting, making masks, learningto juggle and a variety of activities.Needless to say their eyes lit upwhen Mickey arrived. Well done toLucy for working so hard to ensurethe children had such a great time.east london & essex150 years of friends and funCourt ‘Wellington’is celebrating its150th anniversary<strong>this</strong> year.
