We have been involved inadoption since 1958 and becamelicensed as a private adoptionagency by the OntarioMinistry of Children andYouth Services in March1986. <strong>Jewels</strong> For <strong>Jesus</strong>works exclusively in theprovince of Ontario. Weare a Christian agencycommitted to providingprofessional adoption servicesin a caring, Christianenvironment.WHO ARE OUR CHILDRENWe work exclusively with birth parents who are making avoluntary adoption plan <strong>for</strong> their children, providingsupport and education regarding the many facets ofadoption including openness, legal rights andresponsibilities, and issues of grief and loss. In mostsituations, the birth parents we assist are choosingadoption be<strong>for</strong>e the birth of their children, so thechildren are newborns. Occasionally the children areinfants or toddlers who come from homes where theparent(s) are unable to meets the demands ofparenting.The children we place come from a variety ofethnic and racial backgrounds, as well asmedical histories. We strive to obtain as muchsocial and medical in<strong>for</strong>mation about the child, and theirbiological parents, as possible so that the adopting familyis fully aware of the child’s background and needs.WHO ARE OURADOPTIVE FAMILIESIn keeping with the guidelines of the OntarioMinistry of Children and Youth Services, whichoversees all private adoption in the province, it isour responsibility to screen adoptiveapplicants carefully.Adoptive applicants must beresidents of Ontario and must havean approved homestudy completedby a licensed AdoptionPractitioner. Most of our adoptivefamilies are people with a strongcommitment to the Christian faithand we are able to assure biologicalparents that their child will be raisedwithin the Christian faith should they request this.
