Some delightfulwaterside walking. 10 miles,1,000ft <strong>of</strong> ascent, up to 7 hours <strong>of</strong>(easy) walking.A walk taking in <strong>the</strong> varied terrain<strong>of</strong> Haystacks, Innominate Tarn,Brandreth and Grey Knotts. 9miles, 2400ft <strong>of</strong> ascent, 6 hourswalking.A good hill walk from Seatoller to<strong>the</strong> top <strong>of</strong> Glaramara. However <strong>the</strong> summercan see hot days and it can be cold andwet at any time <strong>of</strong> year. It can also bevery windy, even low down. We adviseyou to take windpro<strong>of</strong>/waterpro<strong>of</strong>trousers, a windpro<strong>of</strong>/waterpro<strong>of</strong>jacket, fleece, gloves and hat at alltimes <strong>of</strong> year, as well as lighter summerclo<strong>the</strong>s for <strong>the</strong> warmer months.You will need a small rucksack,lightweight bottle for drinking water,picnic knife, some poly<strong>the</strong>ne bags, asmall first aid kit, insect repellent and alunchbox. You may wish to takeswimwear and a towel if you fancyswimming in <strong>the</strong> lake.Lightweight waterpro<strong>of</strong> walking bootswith moulded rubber soles areessential, as some paths are steep andeven down low <strong>the</strong> ground can berough or boggy. <strong>Walking</strong> poles may alsobe useful.As a guideline for a walking kitchecklist: <strong>Walking</strong> boots with good anklesupport – essential Waterpro<strong>of</strong>s – jacket andtrousers – essential Lightweight trousers andshorts Shirts or t-shirts for walking in <strong>Walking</strong> socks – several pairs! You need to bring yourmotor insurance policy certificate withyou and accept that any use by yourtravelling companions is for socialpurposes only for which you will not beable to receive any payment.
