This year, there were 40 universitiesfrom 11 participating regions in the <strong>Pan</strong>-<strong>Pearl</strong> <strong>River</strong> <strong>Delta</strong> <strong>Region</strong>, namely nine mainland provinces suchas Guizhou, Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Yuannan, Jiangxi, Hong Kong, andMacau. Each participating region nominates the best final year projects or research thesis of theirprospective graduates based upon the criteria of originality of project theme, scientific vigor,innovativeness, ease of development, practicality and benefits, and documentation and presentation.The performance of our Hong Kong contestants was spectacular. The Hong Kong Polytechnic Universityand Hong Kong Baptist University respectively received a First-grade award out of the three offered bythe organizer. And the other two Hong Kong contestants were awarded the Second-grade award andThird-grade award respectively.The First-grade award winners Ms. Kitty Yuen from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Mr. TongTat Ming from Hong Kong Baptist University once again demonstrated their projects at the pressconference and shared their experience of participating the competition in Guizhou. “The competitionprovided a good platform for academic and cultural exchange with the students from <strong>Pan</strong>-PRD region. Itwas also a great chance for us to appreciate the serious and self-initiated learning attitude of theMainland students” said Ms. Kitty Yuen. On the other hand, Mr. Tong Tat Ming stated, “winning thecompetition made me more confidence and it’s also an encouragement to myself. The eventis organized by Guizhou Computer Federation, with the Computer Federations of Guandong, Fujian, Hunan,Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Jiangxi, iProA, and Macau Computer Association as coorganizers, <strong>Amway</strong>(China) Co., Limited as the sponsor. The event is supported by China Computer Federation, Guizhou Ministry ofScience and Technology, Guizhou Ministry of Education, Guizhou Association for Science and Technology, andGuizhou University. Through exhibiting the education achievements of the computer profession in <strong>Pan</strong>-PRD region,the competition promotes external and internal collaboration, foster a knowledge exchange platform to nurture ICTtalents in respond to the market demand for ICT talents. The projects of the award winners will be displayed at theScience Museum of Guizhou.The first <strong>Amway</strong> Cup was organized in 2005 and it drew participants from the universities in Guangdong, Hong Kong,and Macau. <strong>Amway</strong> (China) Co., Limited has been the sponsor of the competition ever since then.
