<strong>Carl</strong> <strong>Jung</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Bruchlinien</strong> <strong>concept</strong>Eminent psychologist <strong>Carl</strong> G. <strong>Jung</strong>, in a letter dated 16 October 1932, sent to <strong>the</strong> NorthAmerican doctor Smith Ely Jelliffe, described <strong>the</strong> pathological symptoms of his schizophrenicpatients, while at <strong>the</strong> same time sending him his <strong>com</strong>ments on <strong>the</strong> drawings <strong>the</strong>y were creating.<strong>Jung</strong> drew an explanatory diagram on what he called “<strong>Bruchlinien</strong>”, a term coined by him torefer to a line dividing <strong>the</strong> image <strong>and</strong> which apparently was indicative of <strong>the</strong> patient’s mentalstate.
