Spirit <strong>of</strong> givingEach family has their own traditions for celebrating the holidays. One <strong>of</strong> themost traditional is sending a holiday card to wish good tidings to those you careabout. To benefit the patients at <strong>Cook</strong> Children’s, one <strong>of</strong> the most successfulprograms <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Cook</strong> Children’s Woman’s Board has been selling child-designedcards through its Cards for Kids project. <strong>The</strong> funds raised through Cards forKids have helped fund critical medical equipment, stained glass windows andneedlepoint cushions in the chapel, a rock climbing wall in the rehabilitation unit,scholarships for patients to attend summer camps with the medical personneland equipment each child requires, as well as many other needs. This year, fundsraised will go toward building the new Woman’s Board Learning Center as part <strong>of</strong>our medical center expansion.“We are thrilled to have local partners like the Enchanted Castle Gift Shop inthe medical center, select DFW Tom Thumb grocery stores, Central Market, Intothe Garden, Stanley Eisenman Fine Shoes and Yogi’s Bagel Cafe that help support<strong>Cook</strong> Children’s by selling our cards,” said 2011 Cards for Kids Co-chairpersonPam Johndroe.“You can view our catalog on the <strong>Cook</strong>’s Children’s Health Foundation Website or you may request a catalogue by calling our <strong>of</strong>fice,” said Dee Holmes, 2011Cards for Kids co-chairperson.“We are always looking for new, young artists who are interested in creatingartwork,” said Angela Donahue, Cards for Kids co-chairperson. “Any child in thecommunity who is interested in submitting artwork, for the holidays or any otheroccasion, may send it to us for consideration <strong>of</strong> the 2012 catalogue.”<strong>The</strong> artwork should be submitted on an 8½” x 11” paper using markers,crayons, paint or pencil and sent to:Cards for KidsP.O.
