BETTER BOOT FITTING, OR HOW TO HAVE REALLY HAPPY CUSTOMERSThe ultimate result in perfect boot fitting is to increase customer satisfaction, to makeyou and your shop look professional, and to keep people coming back to your store. It alsois a major contributor in reducing the number of boot returns that you get because ofpoor or bad fit.LOWA is a proud sponsor of the FitSystem by Phil Oren which instructs retailers how tocorrectly fit a boot to an individual foot. If you ever have a chance to attend a FitSystemSeminar, you should jump at the opportunity.A Few Steps to Keep in Mind When Fitting Boots- Perform a visual assessment of the foot- is it high or low volume? Is it wide or narrow? Isthere any kind of deformity like bunions or hammer toes?- Measure the foot correctly = Be sure to use a Brannock measuring device. Don’t take yourcustomer’s word that they know what size they are!! Measure with the correct sock for theboot’s end use.- Check for a snug heel fit and correct width.- Does the foot flex in the proper place? Does the boot break (or bend) at the ball of the foot?Is the boot comfortable where the cuff meets the shin?- Is there any in-step pressure? Check that the boot is laced properly.- Is there enough toe room? The customer should be able to comfortably wiggle his or her toes.- Decide if the customer needs an after-market footbed.Dear LOWA...Struktura Liner Molding InstructionsIf you have a blowdryer, turn it on medium and place nozzle inside the boot, moving itconstantly so it doesn’t burn the lining. Then place your foot inside, and close buckles.Wear the boot for about 10 minutes...the boot will now be custom-fit to your foot. Oryou can place the boots in a 200 degree oven for 10 minutes (just don’t answer thephone and forget about ‘em!), then wear them for about 10 minutes. Here in the San Juans we have had an exceptionally cold winter with not much snowCARE AND WHERE TO REPAIRDrying- Pull laces and open the tongue. Pull out the footbeds and dry boots at ROOM TEMPERATURE.Airing out may take 24 hours.- If very wet, lightly stuff boots with newspaper (this will help in sucking up moisture).- NEVER dry boots in an oven or by a hot fire. The glue that holds the rand and sole together is heat sensitive!Rands and soles that have melted off are not warrantied!CleaningWaterproofing- Brush dirt off the boot, clean off all dirt on the surface off the boot.Remove footbeds and clean the inside, removing dirt and sweat residue.- If boots are really dirty, use saddle soap and rinse wipe thoroughly.- Pull out the laces and open the tongue.- Don’t put your boots in the washing machine or dryer (we are not kidding…)!Treat the boot with any commercially available shoe waterproofing product such as Snoseal, Nikwax or Granger’s.(Do not use mink oil for waterproofing or breaking-in your boots!)NOTE: Also be careful about wearing your boots around fertilizers and other chemicals for your lawn care. Thesechemicals can tend to break down the stitching and leather on your boots and this damage is not warrantied.WarrantyDave Page, Cobbler3509 Evanston Ave No.Seattle, WA 98103206-632 8686www.davepagecobbler.com*For full service repairRepairsWe recommend the following boot repair facilities:The Cobbler & Cordwainer73 Crescent ANew Rochelle, NY 10801914-632-8312800-788-2668Fax: 914-632 8419Email: david@cobcord.comwww.cobcord.com*Hooks, eyelets and stitchingrepairs only.
