The truth was that only two atomic bombswere available at the time. The first was dropped on 6 August 1945, followed by thesecond on 9 August. The Japanese fear <strong>of</strong> continued U.S. use <strong>of</strong> atomic bombs, inaddition to their actual effect, led to Japan’s decision to surrender.
