GFFIGHT OF THE YEAR?Photography by: Eric LangleyOn August 26 at Wild Bill’s Fight Night #39,the crowd was treated to one of the bestamateur fights that <strong>Georgia</strong> has ever seen.After three grueling back and forth rounds,Knuckle Up Fitness’ Gui Cury was awardeda majority decision over Striker’s Nick Bealfor the vacant GFC Lightweight Title. Bothfighters entered the ring undefeated andranked #1 and #2 in the state.Cury was on his back for most of the third round with Beallanding bombs, but Beal was unable to end the fight atany point. While some had the third round 10-8 for a draw,the judges saw it 10-9 Beal.Round one was all Cury as he took down Beal at will andmounted on top of him landing strikes. The first two roundswere both similar of each other, until about 30 seconds left inround two when Beal turned up the pressure.Late in round two itappeared as thoughCury ran out of gasand Beal’s endurancestarted taking over. Beallanded numerous shotsto the head of Cury atthe end of round twothat almost stole him theround, but the judgesstill awarded it to Curydue to him controllingthe action for the firsttwo minutes.As the scorecards are read, two fighters show emotions afterfinding out how the judges scored the fight.
