Thenew mouse has two buttons and aroller-ball mechanism. During thedesign stage, extensive human factorsand market research testing were carriedout to determine user requirements.Fit, feel, and looks came out asthe top differentiating user needs. Onehundred sixty people from all kinds ofprofessions and industry were asked byan external research agency to evaluatethe new <strong>HP</strong> Mouse against the bestmice on the market. At the end of theevaluation, they were asked to makea choice. The <strong>HP</strong> mouse won overall.Based on feedback from this test, thedesign of the prototype was furtherrefined.The product will be available worldwidein early 1990. Only one interfacewill be available - the mini-DIN interface,sometimes known as the PSI2interface. The interface will suit thenew <strong>HP</strong> <strong>Vectra</strong> <strong>486</strong> <strong>PC</strong>. IBM PSl2,Compaq Tandy, and NEC <strong>PC</strong>s with thepointing device port can also use thenew mouse. However, it will not becompatible with the older <strong>HP</strong> <strong>Vectra</strong><strong>PC</strong>s with HIL interface. These usersshould continue ordering the existingmouse (PIN 46060A). The new mousecomes with the latest Microsofi Mousedriver (version 7, in 5 %- and 3%-inchdiskettes), a manual in three languages,and a one-year return-to-<strong>HP</strong> warranty.Combine the <strong>HP</strong> <strong>Vectra</strong> <strong>486</strong> <strong>PC</strong> withthe <strong>HP</strong> 20-inch high-resolution display,<strong>HP</strong> Intelligent Graphics Controller, andan <strong>HP</strong> Draftmaster plotter, and usershave a total CAD system with p<strong>erformance</strong>that is unmatched by any othervendor.
