notifying the instructor prior to the exam and providing acceptableevidence regarding the cause of the absence when returning to the<strong>College</strong>.Final exam schedules are issued by the Office of the Dean,Instructional Affairs, and other important information is providedin each course syllabus disseminated to students by facultymembers at the beginning of each term. Any student who desiresto schedule an exam at a time other than that published on the finalexam schedule must receive approval from the Dean, InstructionalAffairs.STANDARDS OF ACADEMIC PROGRESSStandards of academic progress apply to all students unless oneof the following exceptions exists:1. Programs within the institution that are subject to externallicensure, certification, and/or accreditation or that are fewerthan four terms in length may have higher standards ofacademic progress than <strong>College</strong> standards of progress.Selected transfer students are placed on academic probationupon admission and must make the transition to thesestandards of academic progress.2. Special standards of academic progress have been establishedfor students enrolled in institutional credit courses awardinggrades of S and U and for students who desire to remaineligible to receive Title IV financial aid.STANDARDS OF PROGRESS POLICYThe following grade point average levels are required for studentsaccording to the number of hours attempted at the <strong>College</strong>:1. <strong>Student</strong>s who have attempted 12-21 semester credit hours atthe <strong>College</strong> must maintain a cumulative grade point averageof 1.5.2. <strong>Student</strong>s who have attempted 22-32 semester credit hours atthe <strong>College</strong> must maintain a cumulative grade point averageof 1.75.3. <strong>Student</strong>s who have attempted 33 or more semester credithours at the <strong>College</strong> must maintain a cumulative grade pointaverage of 2.0.INTERVENTION FOR STUDENT SUCCESSWhen students are placed on academic probation, academicsuspension for one term OR one calendar year, <strong>College</strong> officialsmay provide intervention for students by taking such steps asimposing maximum course loads, requiring a study skills course,and/or prescribing other specific courses.APPLICATION OF STANDARDS OF PROGRESSClear. When the cumulative grade point average is at or above thegrade point average required for the total number of credit hoursattempted at the <strong>College</strong>, the student’s status is CLEAR.Academic Probation. When a student’s cumulative grade pointaverage is below the grade point average required for the numberof credit hours attempted at the <strong>College</strong>, the student is placed onACADEMIC PROBATION. When the cumulative grade pointaverage of a student who is on ACADEMIC PROBATIONremains below the grade point average required for the totalnumber of credit hours attempted but the term grade point averageis 2.0 or above, the student remains on ACADEMICPROBATION. When the cumulative grade point average of astudent is at or above the grade point average required for the totalnumber of credit hours attempted, the student’s status is CLEAR.Academic Suspension for One Term. When the cumulative gradepoint average of a student who is on ACADEMIC PROBATIONremains below the grade point average required for the totalnumber of hours attempted and the term grade point average isbelow 2.0, the student is suspended for one term. The transcriptwill read SUSPENDED FOR ONE TERM.The student who is SUSPENDED FOR ONE TERM may appealto the Admissions and Academic Standards Committee. If, afterappeal, the student is readmitted without serving the suspension,the transcript will read SUSPENDED—ONE TERM/READMITTED UPON APPEAL. The student who isREADMITTED UPON APPEAL reenters the institution onACADEMIC PROBATION.A student who returns to the <strong>College</strong> on ACADEMICPROBATION after being suspended for one term (whether thestudent has served the suspension or has been readmitted onappeal) without having since achieved CLEAR academic statusand whose cumulative grade point average falls below the levelrequired for the total number of hours attempted at the <strong>College</strong> butwhose term grade point average is 2.0 or above will remain onACADEMIC PROBATION until the student achieves the requiredgrade point average for the total number of hours attempted. Whenthe cumulative grade point average is at or above the grade pointaverage required for the total number of credit hours attempted atthe <strong>College</strong>, the student’s status is CLEAR.Academic Suspension for One Year. A student who returns to the<strong>College</strong> on ACADEMIC PROBATION after being suspended forone term (whether the student served the suspension or wasreadmitted on appeal) without having since achieved CLEARacademic status and whose cumulative grade point averageremains below the level required for the total number of hoursattempted at the <strong>College</strong> and whose term grade point average isbelow 2.0 will be suspended for one calendar year. The transcriptwill read SUSPENDED—ONE YEAR. A student who serves aone-year suspension reenters the <strong>College</strong> on ACADEMICPROBATION.1-800-543-2426 43 www.wallace.edu
