The Board of Advisors of the InternationalArchive of Women in Architecture (IAWA) is pleased to announce aWinner and Honorable Mention of the Second Milka Bliznakov. Dr.Elizabeth Birmingham, Department of English, North Dakota StateUniversity, was awarded the Second Annual Milka Bliznakov Prize of$1000 for her research, “Searching for Marion Mahony: Gender,Erasure, & the Discourse of Architectural Studies.” The Jury foundthat the work was one of the best pieces on gender and architecturewritten in the past few years. The introduction alone makes asubstantial contribution to scholarship on women and architectureand in itself would be worthy of the prize. As a whole, the book istremendously important. Honorable Mention was awarded to Ms.Jane Hession, Independent Scholar, Eden Prairie, MN for her work,“The Houses of Lisl Close.”The Board is also pleased to announce the finalists of Stage One(Review of Proposals) for the Third Milka Bliznakov Prize.
