<strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> CompanyHistorySince its inception in 1980, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> has grown to become the leading environmental serviceprovider and largest hazardous waste disposal company in North America. The company, foundedby Alan S. McKim, began as a small four-person tank cleaning business. Today, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> is apublicly traded company that maintains a vast network of service centers and waste management,treatment and disposal facilities and provides a broad range of environmental services. Servicesinclude hazardous and non-hazardous waste transportation and disposal, laboratory chemicalpacking, emergency response, field services, and industrial maintenance. Mr. McKim continues tolead the company as President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.<strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>' growth is the result of geographic and service line expansion, market penetration,and the formation or acquisition of waste management companies and treatment, storage anddisposal facilities. Its first major expansion was in the early 1980's with the acquisition of theBraintree and Natick, Massachusetts facilities. In 1989, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> purchased Chem Clear, Inc.,a company nationally recognized for its industrial aqueous waste treatment capabilities, withfacilities located in Chicago, Cleveland, and Baltimore.While the Chem Clear acquisition helped catapult <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> firmly into the waste disposalbusiness, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> continued to expand its geographic coverage by adding a Connecticut and asecond Ohio treatment facility. <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> solidified its position as a full-service hazardouswaste disposal provider with vast in-house disposal resources with its acquisition of the Kimball,Nebraska incinerator in 1995.While broadening disposal and waste processing capabilities, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> also further developedexisting service lines such as field services. Since 1980, field service centers have been strategicallylocated across North America to provide customers with emergency response services and toperform planned work on customer locations. These centers service thousands of customers inmultiple industries. Today <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> is a recognized leader in environmental emergencyresponse services.Service lines have also been created to meet customer demand. <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>' laboratory chemicalpacking services, <strong>Clean</strong>Pack ® , was formed in 1986 to provide industries, schools and universities, aswell as communities with vital services to manage the collection, packaging and disposal oflaboratory chemical and household hazardous waste. With the creation of the Reactive MaterialsTeams, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> can respond to the most hazardous and dangerous chemical and compressedgas situations. Beginning in the northeastern United States and extending over time to the South andWest, today, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>' <strong>Clean</strong>Pack teams provide service throughout North America.


<strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> Industrial Services was formed in 1998. The company's industrial service crewsfocus on industrial cleaning and maintenance projects that typically require fast turnaround and mayinclude hydroblasting, liquid/dry vacuuming, sodium bicarbonate blasting, steam cleaning andchemical cleaning of equipment and systems.In 2002, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> acquired the assets of the Chemical Services Division of Safety-KleenCorporation. The Chemical Services Division, which was made up of 55 service centers, 33 wastemanagement facilities and 4,400 employees, when combined with <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> existing locationshelped create the largest network of disposal technologies and environmental services in NorthAmerica.In 2007, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> acquired Teris LLC with more than 550 employees, several field locations,an incineration facility in El Dorado, Arkansas, and a treatment, storage and disposal facility locatedin Wilmington, California. <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>’ investment in Teris further improves its ability to servicecustomers and demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining the largest array of serviceofferings in the environmental services industry.In 2008, the Company acquired two solvent recycling facilities in Chicago, Illinois and Hebron,Ohio. This acquisition broadened the company’s service portfolio and established a substantialpresence for <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> in the solvent recycling market. By acquiring these two recyclingfacilities and constructing a solvent recovery plant at <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>’ El Dorado, Arkansas location,the company offers a broad spectrum of choices for addressing their solvent waste streams. <strong>Clean</strong><strong>Harbors</strong> core services include the recycling of a variety of chemicals and solvents, which areavailable for sale, as well as offering tolling w<strong>here</strong> material is recycled and return the customer fortheir reuse.In 2009, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> acquired Eveready Inc., a Canadian-based company that provides industrialmaintenance and production, lodging, and exploration services to the oil and gas, chemical, pulp andpaper, manufacturing and power generation industries. With the addition of over 2,100 employees,79 locations, and a service fleet of over 2,400 truck and trailer units, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong>’ acquisition ofEveready broadens its energy and industrial service offerings and geographic reach in the UnitedStates, Canada, and internationally.Today, <strong>Clean</strong> <strong>Harbors</strong> has a network of over 175 service locations provides transportation anddisposal, laboratory chemical packing, 24-hour emergency response, and field, energy and industrialservices on customer sites or other locations.
