Artist Will Barnet providesprints for USI art collectionNoted American artist WillBarnet of New York has presentedthree pieces of his workfor addition to the <strong>University</strong>’s art collection.The lithographs are on displayin the McCutchan Exhibition Space inthe Wright Administration Building.Will Barnet and Stephen Pace haveArtists Will Barnet, left, and Stephen Pacehave been friends for more than 50 years.been friends for more than 50 years.Barnet presented the prints to the USIFoundation to honor his friend and fellowartist as ground was broken recentlyfor the Kenneth P. McCutchan ArtCenter/Palmina F. and Stephen S. PaceGalleries. The McCutchan Art Center/Pace Galleries is an addition to theLiberal Arts Center.Susan Colaricci Sauls, art collectionregistrar for the <strong>University</strong>, said,“Barnet has explored many artisticstyles yet executes his work in a mannerthat is uniquely his own.”His body of work is closely identifiedwith the Indian Space Movement,which is influenced by Native Americanart and promotes flat design with a balanceof organic and geometric shapes.Barnet received the 2007 DistinguishedLifetime Achievement Award from theCollege Art Association.Pace lived in Posey County,<strong>Indiana</strong>, in his youth and studied art inEvansville. He and his wife Palmina arerelocating from New York to the SolarbronPointe Retirement Community adjacentto the USI campus. The Paces recentlyprovided a $1.5 million gift to the USIFoundation. The gift includes a numberof Pace’s works as well as funding toestablish the Pace Galleries in theMcCutchan Art Center.The USI art collection is ateaching collection.Lecture hall, classroom named for LawrencesWill BarnetTotem, 1982Lithograph withMetallic SilkscreenA lecture hall and a collaborative classroom in theHealth Professions Center have been named to honorthe memory of Melissa Faye Lawrence and recognizeher husband John M. Lawrence ’73, left, of Evansville.Lawrence; his aunt, Carol Dippel Heines, center; andDr. Nadine Coudret, dean of the College of Nursing andHealth Professions, gathered with USI President H. RayHoops, other <strong>University</strong> administrators, faculty, and studentsfor the dedication.
