30 Years of Prayer and Healing SchoolMy dad, Kenneth E. Hagin, ministered extensively during the healing revival that sweptthe United States during the 1950s. I remember hearing him say that it was easy to get peoplehealed back then. He said it seemed as though healing was in the air.However, Dad also noticed that many people who had received miraculous healings oftenlost their healing. And after the symptoms came back on them, they were usually worse offthan before they were healed!That’s why my dad changed the way he ministered. Sure, he could have advertised healingrevivals and filled large auditoriums. But he knew that the people wouldn’t keep their healing.So he began holding smaller meetings where he could both minister to the sick and teachthe people.In these smaller meetings, Dad often saw people who had been miraculously healed bynotable healing evangelists but had lost their healing. He would take his time and teach themline upon line, precept upon precept. Not only did most of them get healed a second time, butthey also knew how to keep their healing.I remember hearing Dad say on more than one occasion, “No one can maintain a healingwhich has come as a result of another’s faith, gifts of the Spirit, and so on, unless his faithis developed through the Word of God to the point where he canmaintain his own rights.” And that’s one of the main reasons whyPrayer and Healing School was started 30 years ago. We’ve simplyprovided a place where people can come and be built up inthe Word concerning healing and learn how to stand against thedevil’s attacks on their own.Not much has changed since October 1, 1979. Oh, people havecome and gone, but the same Word is being taught day in andday out. And people are getting healed and staying healed. Dadoften said, “We’re going to be here until Jesus comes.” And ifJesus tarries His coming another 30 years, we’ll still be hereteaching the same Word of healing.Kenneth W. Hagin2 rhema.org

Gideon was actinglike anything but a mighty warrior. But whenGideon finally saw himself the way God sawhim, he went on to deliver the Israelites fromthe Midianites (Judges 7:1–25).God also changed Abram’s name. In thenatural it was impossible for Abram andSarai to have children. But God said, “Nolonger will you be called Abram; your namewill be Abraham, for I have made you a fatherof many nations” (Gen. 17:5 NIV). He alsochanged Sarai’s name to Sarah (Gen. 17:15).God’s Words were fulfilled when Sarah gavebirth to Isaac.God calls those things that are not asthough they were (Rom. 4:17). In the naturalrealm, what God is calling us may not exist.But in His eyes, it does. So we need to talkabout ourselves the same way God does.What God says about us is found in HisWord. Here are some things we are and havein Christ:» We are new creatures.(2 Cor. 5:17)» We are the righteousness of God.(2 Cor. 5:21)» We’ve been healed.(1 Peter 2:24)» We’ve been made rich.(2 Cor. 8:9)» We are accepted.(Eph. 1:6 KJV)» We are free from sin.(Rom. 6:20–22)Psalm 23:4 says, “Yea, though I walkthrough the valley of the shadow of death, Iwill fear no evil.” I like to say that verse likethis: “Yea, though I walk through all of themess that the devil tries to put on me, I willfear no evil. Through my identification inChrist, I can walk on scorpions and not beharmed. I can walk on anything that tries toget in my way and come out victoriously.”It’s time for us to stand up and be whoGod says we are. And we need to let the devilknow that we know who we are in Christ.Then anytime he tries to attack us, we canthrow our shoulders back and say, “Don’tmess with me. Keep the Fire Alive!A few things have changed from early camp meetings to Campmeeting2009. Services are no longer held outdoors under a tent, and there’s nosawdust on the ground. I believethat in my heart and I say it with mymouth.Because Jesus bore sickness for me,I am healed. I am free. I no longerhave sickness or disease. Thank You,Father, that Your will for me is thatI be well, and that I live out the fulllength of my life without sickness,pain, or disease.This woman had been operated on two years before.And when the doctors opened her body up, theysaw many malignant growths. So they just sewed herback up and said nothing more could be done. Theycouldn’t understand how she had lived so long after theoperation.I went with the pastor to visit the woman. WhenI met her, she looked like a skeleton. Her skin lookedas if it was stretched over her bones, except where thetumors were. The tumors made her look as if she werepregnant.This dear saint said the same kind of thing my pianist’smother said. “I’ve preached for years. I’m savedand filled with the Holy Ghost. I’ve suffered so much,We laid hold of her spiritand wouldn’t let her go. We kept herhere long enough thatwe finally got enoughWord into her spiritand she was healed.and I’m ready to go. Just leave me aloneand let me die.”The pastor and I both said, “No, we’renot going to do that.” I felt led to read herProverbs 4:20–22: “My son, attend to mywords; incline thine ear unto my sayings.Let them not depart from thine eyes; keepthem in the midst of thine heart. For theyare life unto those that find them, and health to all theirflesh.”“When I was on the bed of sickness,” I said to her,“I eventually got hold of these verses and saw where Ihad been missing it. We have to keep the Word beforeour eyes.”When I was terminally ill, this was a turning pointfor me. The doctor said I was going to die, and I sawmyself dead. But I got hold of these verses and did notlet the Word of God depart from my eyes. I began to seemyself alive even though nothing had changed in mybody. I began to see myself doing things I had neverdone before.I told that dear saint, “Every time you look at yourbig stomach, see it flat. He won’t get anyglory if you die like this.”I laid hands on the woman andleft. That was at the beginning ofSeptember of 1957. In May of 1958,I was back in Fort Worth ministeringat the same Assemblies of Godchurch. The pastor told me that thiswoman had been healed. I rejoicedbut thought no more about it.One evening the pastor and Iwere in the church. I was straighteningup my book table when I heardhim speaking to two ladies. I didn’trecognize either one of them so Ikept straightening my books.One of the ladies came up to meand just threw her arms around meand hugged me. I pulled her arms offof me, pushed her away, and lookedat her.She said, “You don’t recognize me,do you?”“No, I don’t,” I said. She looked soyoung and pretty.“I’m Sister So-and-So.” When I realizedshe was the woman evangelistI had prayed for, I threw my armsaround her, and we had a hallelujahspell right there!“I’m sure glad you boys didn’tlet me die!” she said. “It would havebeen the easiest thing in the worldto just die and go to Heaven. ButI started thinking about what yousaid. And every time I looked at myhuge stomach, I saw it flat. My conditiondidn’t change instantly, butin two or three months’ time, I couldtell that it was getting smaller. Andin the process of time, my stomachjust flattened out and all the symptomsleft me.“I have the summer lined up withmeetings,” she said. “I can’t go like Idid when I was young, but I’m goingto preach all summer and rest in thewinter.”Years later, I read in thePentecostal Evangel that she diedwhen she was 93 years old. And shedied without sickness and disease!I found out from the pastor in FortWorth that she preached right up tothe time she died. One day she saidto her daughter, “The Lord showedme it’s time for me to go home.” Shesat down in the rocking chair, saidgood-bye, and just took off!16 rhema.orgGod’s Word Works!“I’ll preach that Jesussaves and heals. I’ll preachthat He fills with the HolySpirit and that He is comingagain.” As a ministerof the Gospel, Kenneth E.Hagin long carried a dreamin his heart to help thosewho suffered in pain andsickness the way he himselfhad once suffered.’c o m e a n dstay until youget healed. . . .’Born with a deformedheart, Kenneth was paralyzedand bedridden at theage of 15. On the very firstnight he became bedfast,completely beyond all medicalhelp, he died and wentto hell three times. Eachtime he approached the entranceto hell, a voice spokeand he returned to his body.On that night—April 22,1933— Kenneth E. Haginwas born again.*In that same year, Kennethbegan a determined studyof God’s Word. And thougheveryone around him told himto prepare for death, he got arevelation of Mark 11:23–24and faith for healing wasquickened in his young heart.On August 8, 1934, Godraised Kenneth off the bed ofsickness—completely healedand whole!It was at this momentthat God birthed somethinggreater in Kenneth E.Hagin—a desire to seethe lost saved and the sickmade well. He began topreach and teach salvationand divine healing whereverhe went. Though he didn’tknow it at the time, this wasthe beginning of what wouldbecome a worldwide ministry—aministry founded onprayer and the healing truthsfound in God’s Word.Over 40 years afterKenneth was raised off thebed of sickness, God beganto speak to his heart abouta change in his ministry.Though he had been ministeringon prayer, healing,and faith in crusades andmeetings all over the UnitedStates, it was time for anew direction.“I saw it in the spirit,”Kenneth said, “that Godwants us to have . . . aPrayer and Healing Centerwhere folks can come. Andwe’ll go out to some ofthem, but some of themneed to come and stay untilthey get healed.”During the afternoonof October 1, 1979, thatvision from God became areality as Kenneth E. Haginheld the first session ofPrayer and Healing School.He began by explaining,“These services are going tobe different. healing. But even that won’tlast if you don’t get the Wordin you.“No one will receivehealing and be able to keepit unless they build a faithof their own. That’s becausethere’s an enemy arrayedagainst us—the Devil—whohas come to kill, to steal, andto destroy (John 10:10).“But when you’reequipped with the Word,praise God, it makes thedifference. That’s one thingthat we want to doin these classes—getthe Word of God intopeople. So that’s thereason we tell peoplewho need healing, ‘Youcome and stay until you gethealed—whether it’s a day, aweek, a month, six months, ora year.’”In these classes, in additionto teaching on healing,Rev. Hagin taught on prayeras the Lord had directed him.“This is not only a HealingSchool,” he noted, “but thisis a Prayer School. We’re goingto learn to pray in variousways. However, in these services,we’re not only going toteach prayer, but we’re goingto pray.“The Apostle Paul, speakingby the Holy Spirit, tells usto put ‘supplications, prayers,and intercessions for all men,for all that are in authority’first (1 Tim. 2:1–3). Let’s justfollow the directions as simplyas God gave them and dowhat He said to do. And thenwe’ll get results. These prayermeetings will have an effectaround the world.”The effects of Prayer andHealing School have been feltaround the world. People andnations have been changed,and adverse situations havebeen turned around. AndPrayer and Healing School’sfoundation on the Word ofGod, established 30 yearsago, is still as strong today asit ever was.Through the years, somethings have changed. The fourteenth chapter of the Book of Acts records the story of acrippled man whose destiny was changed after he came in contactwith the Apostle Paul. This man had been lame from birthand had never walked a day in his life. But after hearing Paul preachthe message of Christ, he was healed of a lifelong infirmity.By examining how this man was healed, we can learn simple stepswe can take to receive healing for ourselves.ACTS 14:7–107 And there they [Paul and Barnabas] preached the gospel.8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet,being a cripple from his mother’s womb, who never had walked:9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, andperceiving that he had faith to be healed,10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And heleaped and walked.// Craig W. HAGINFrom these verses, we can see that both Paul and the crippledman did three things before this healing took place.FirstPaul preached the Gospel. He didn’t preach his opinion or hispolitics or give a motivational speech. His message was simple: JesusChrist, and Him crucified (1 Cor. 2:1–2).Although Paul experienced a lot of persecution for the Gospel’ssake, he did not allow persecution to stop him from preaching thatGospel. In Acts chapter 13, we see that Paul and Barnabas were expelledfrom Antioch in Pisidia for preaching Christ. Instead of quitting,they just shook the dust off their feet and travelled to Iconium(Acts 13:51), and then to Lystra and Derbe (Acts 14:6), where Paulcontinued to preach the Word of God boldly.18 rhema.org

Many people have faith, but they are nothealed because they don’t act on their faith.SecondAs Paul ministered the Word, he perceived that the crippledman had faith to be healed (Acts 14:9). This indicatesthat Paul was probably well into his message when he saw achange in the man’s face.You may have had a similar experience. Have you ever triedto explain something to someone, and you could tell that theother person just wasn’t getting it? But you kept talking untilit seemed as if a light bulb turned on inside him. You knew themoment he understood what you were saying.It appears that this is what happened to Paul; he could tellwhen the lame man had faith to be healed.ThirdPaul commanded the man to get up and walk. He encouragedthe man to act on his faith.These three steps were Paul’s part to play in the man’smiracle. However, the crippled man was not healed on Paul’sfaith alone. He also had a part in receiving his miracle. And ifhe hadn’t done his part, he would not have been healed.What three things did the crippled man do?FirstHe had to hear the Gospel message being preached.Romans 10:17 says that “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearingby the word of God.” If we don’t know what God’s Word saysabout healing, then we can’t have faith that God will heal us.SecondAfter the crippled man heard the Word proclaimed, theScriptures tell us that he had faith to be healed (Acts 14:9). Weall have free wills, and we can accept or reject the things wehear. This man chose to believe the words of Paul and acceptthe message of the Cross. If he had rejected Paul’s words, hewould have remained a cripple.ThirdThe crippled man had to act on what Paul said. Hearing theWord preached was not enough to get the crippled man walking.Neither was having faith to be healed. Many people havefaith, but they are not healed because they don’t act on theirfaith.When Paul said to the crippled man, “Stand upright on thyfeet,” the man could have said, “I can’t. I’ve been lame sincebirth.” But he didn’t do that. Although there was no way in thenatural for him to stand on his feet, he immediately “leapedand walked” on Paul’s command. Only when he took the initiativeand acted on Paul’s command did the healing power ofGod go into his limbs and strengthen his lifeless legs.The healing of the crippled man at Lystra outlines threesimple steps we can take to receive healing: hear, believe, andact. When we dare to act on the Word of God that we haveheard and believed, the seemingly impossible will suddenlybecome possible! Passion Revived at Summer BlitzAt times it’s good to get awayand be revived—even as a teenager.And that’s exactly what nearly 500youth did at Summer Blitz, AXIS ®Youth Ministries’ annual event heldin conjunction with Campmeeting2009. During the five-day event, therewere five first-time salvations, 59rededications, and 31 young peoplefilled with the Holy Spirit. Those resultsseemed fitting to the event’s theme:Revive.Brent Bailey and Keith Nachbor,RHEMA Bible Church’s Senior andJunior High Youth Pastors, hosted theevent on the RHEMA campus in BrokenArrow, Oklahoma. They and the guestspeakers delivered stirring messagesthat challenged the teenagers notonly to strengthen their relationshipwith God, but also to share their faithwith others—a challenge that many inattendance accepted!During the Monday nightservice, Nachbor told theteens that living for God is allor nothing. “You can’t give atithe of your life to God,” hesaid. “You can’t live for Him10 percent of the time and dowhatever you want the other90 percent.” At the conclusionof his message, teenagerspoured down to the altar to rededicatetheir lives to Christ.Bailey’s message Thursday eveningwas titled, “I got that.” He encouragedeveryone in attendance that everypromise in God’s Word belongs tothem. “If you’re sick, God’s Word saysyou are healed by the stripes of Jesus,”he said. “If you need peace, the Biblesays you can have the peace of Godwhich surpasses all understanding. He recalled the anger,bitterness, and depressionthat followed and related howhe found new life in Christwhile in college. When Bardelfinished speaking, several youthresponded to the call to begin anew life in Christ.of people pleasers: 1) They take criticism personally; 2) They areafraid of rejection; and 3) They have a hard time saying no. Hesaid, “You are to be conformed to the image of Christ, not to theopinion of people.”Aaron Hankins ministered onthe power of the Holy Spirit and theimportance of being filled with the thingsof God. “God wants you to be filled withHim, His Spirit, His Presence,” he said.“You’re not meant to live full of the thingsof the world.” He then prayed individuallywith each person to be filled with the fireof God, after which the entire auditoriumfull of people erupted in exuberant praiseto Him.

In earlieryears, Ken and I took our children to Disneyland andvisited Tomorrow Land. I was awed at the proposed futuretechnology. Today, most of us now use the technologythat was predicted back in the 70s and 80s.Yet, it seems that with the latest technology, peopletoday are more discontented about life than ever before.People don’t enjoy the pleasures and possessions they’vebeen blessed with and are always searching for more.Paul penned a profound statement: “. . . for I havelearned how to be content with whatever I have. I knowhow to live on almost nothing or with everything. I havelearned the secret of living in every situation, whetherit is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.For I can do everything through Christ, who gives mestrength” (Phil. 4:11–13 NLT).The Message says it a little more plainly, “. . . I’velearned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances.I’m just as happy with little as with much, withmuch as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happywhether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. WhateverI have, wherever I am, I can make it through anythingin the One who makes me who I am.”As a child, I found myself not being content with thestage of life that I was in at the moment. Being a veryindependent child, I anxiously awaited the time that Iwould learn to drive and not have to depend on anyonefor transportation. In the state of Texas at that time,the legal driving age was 14 if you took a driver’s educationcourse. I signed up the minute I qualified and begandriving at 14. In looking at children now, I shudder tothink that I was driving in the summer following 8thgrade.After finally accomplishing what I had longed for, Ifound that I didn’t enjoy that stage of my life anymore.Instead, I wanted to advance to the next stage of my life.I wanted to get married, have children, and fulfill thecall of God upon my life. When these things began to22 rhema.orghappen in my life and I still wasn’t content, I began torealize that I wasn’t enjoying the different stages of mylife. Instead, I was always waiting for the next big eventto take place. I decided to correct my attitude and enjoylife as it passed me by.I want to encourage you to do the same. The worldhas taught us that life is about material things. If youcan become big enough, respected enough, rich enough,powerful enough, you will be content and happy in life.However, material possessions alone do not bring youpeace and happiness. Some of the most miserable peoplein the world are able to purchase everything this worldpossesses. A relationship with God is the only thing thatbrings peace and contentment in a person’s life.A man in his 80s was asked, “If you had one word ofadvice for young people, what would it be?” “Don’t hurrythrough life,” he replied. “I hurried through life. I wasalways in a hurry to get to the next thing. I just knewthat something better was waiting for me. When I wasin my forties, I realized that there had been good thingsto enjoy in every stage of my life. But I missed thembecause I was looking forward to something better.”Let me admonish you: Enjoy life. Enjoy your childrenat the stage they are in now. Enjoy the house you areliving in now. Enjoy the job you have now. Don’t take theattitude: When my kids get to this age, it will be better.Or, when I make more money or get a bigger house, lifewill be more enjoyable. No, enjoy life now! Make it fun.Life is too short not to live every moment to its fullest.Someone once said, “Life is not measured by thenumber of breaths we take, but by the moments thattake our breath away.” Live, laugh, enjoy. Enjoy thephase that you are in. One day you may want that phaseback. Make the best of every situation and be content.You’ll find that circumstances will improve if you willmake God the very center of your life.

Games, high-energypraise and worship, and exciting Biblelessons not only kept the kids entertainedbut taught them to go higher in theirrelationships with God.Elementary-aged kids gathered in theNinowski Recreation Center each day forthe Super Sports Spectacular. Followingthe example of Jesus and His disciples—the greatest team ever—kids discoveredthe importance of giving God 100percent, not just in church but whereverthey go. They learned that in order toplay on God’s team, they must follow Hisinstructions—the Bible. “I’m on God’steam,” the kids yelled. “He’s my Captain,and I choose to always follow Him.”During praise and worship, the kidsshook things up as they sang and dancedto an interactive DVD. With the lightsdimmed, the music loud, and their handsin the air, kids had a great time praisingJesus. “They were all up on their feet,singing at the top of their lungs andjumping around,” Rev. Burns said. “It wasjust a lot of great energy. You could tellthey were really excited.”In their own classroom, preschoolkids went “underwater” in To the Depths.As they “dove in” through an interactiveDVD, they learned to spend time withGod and enjoy a deeper relationshipwith Him. In Bible-based lessons like theGood Samaritan, they also learned to bekind to others and to obey their parents.“The kids love it,” said Alisha Damron,RHEMA Bible Church preschool director.“They’re really focused in.” Whether theywere singing and dancing during praiseand worship, creating crafts, or playingon inflatable games, preschoolers had anawesome time.Each day of Campmeeting wasextraordinary as children’s hearts were seton fire for God. In the elementary servicesalone, 61 children were born again andfilled with the Holy Spirit. “I just wantthe kids to leave with more of a passionfor God,” said Rev.
