<strong>World</strong> <strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> <strong>Forum</strong>, <strong>WREF</strong> <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Final</strong> <strong>Report</strong>:Under a special agreement in 2009, between <strong>World</strong> <strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Congress andthe American Solar <strong>Energy</strong> Society, early January, the two organizations agreed towork together and organize <strong>WREF</strong> <strong>2012</strong> in Denver Convention Center during 12-17May <strong>2012</strong>. Since that date WREC worked very hard to select invited speakers,publicize the event in all its media channels and published leaflets and brochures todistribute around the world. The <strong>Forum</strong> was <strong>World</strong> <strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Congress – XIIand the American Solar <strong>Energy</strong> Society Annual Conference and was chaired by DrChuck Kutscher and co-chaired by Professor Ali Sayigh. Each morning commencedwith a one-and-a-forty-five minute plenary session where 16- eminent speakerspresented their keynote speeches, see figure 12 below.

The WREN dinner was held on Monday 14 May <strong>2012</strong> took place at the Hyatt RegencyHotel. On that occasion, the Ali Sayigh Trophy was handed to the Spanish HonoraryConsul, Pepe Parrado, in recognition of Spain achieving the highest national increase ofrenewable energy installation during 2011 and <strong>2012</strong>.Figure 15: Handing the Trophy to the Honorary Spanish Consol with the presence ofProfessor Thorsteinn, Chairman of the Selection Committee, and H E Dr AltwaijriAnother important occasion was the honouring of the <strong>2012</strong> Pioneers. This year’srecipients were: Dr A. S. WREN awarded H E Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri one of the highest award among allpioneers. He received the Outstanding Pioneer award for his role in promoting renewableenergy and sustainable development among 56 – ISESCO countries during the last 10years, see figure 17.Figure 17: Dr Altaijriwith his Pioneer awardat <strong>WREF</strong><strong>2012</strong>.<strong>WREF</strong><strong>2012</strong> which incorporated the <strong>World</strong> <strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong> Congress – XII, was agreat success. More than 2000 participants registered and there were over 100 exhibitorsat the <strong>Forum</strong> Exhibition.During the <strong>Forum</strong> Elsevier launched their 8-volume Comprehensive <strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong>.This major reference publication has 154 contributors, eight editors and the editor-inchiefis Professor AliSayigh, see figure 18.Figure 18, WREN-Elsevier stand at the<strong>Forum</strong> Exhibition whereComprehensive<strong>Renewable</strong> <strong>Energy</strong>volumes were displayed.
