<strong>2009</strong> OutlookHarvath comes to USI from East Fairmont High Schoolwhere he was a West Virginia first team All-State performerand the 2008 North Central Athletic Conference Player ofthe Year.Kim starts his collegiate career after winning two lettersin soccer at Carmel High School where he helped theGreyhounds to the <strong>Indiana</strong> statechampionship in 2006. He also wasa member of the inaugural USSFMen’s Developmental AcademyTeam for <strong>Indiana</strong> in the U-18 division.Entienne, a soccer letterwinner fromHeritage Hills High School, (LincolnCity, <strong>Indiana</strong>) was All-Pocket AthleticConference and All-District asa senior, in addition to being namedhonorable mention All-State.Kistner was a soccer letter-winnerat Belleville West High Schoolwhere he was named All-Conferenceand Chicago Fire All-Academicafter recording 20 points on sixgoals and eight assists as a senior.DEFENDERS:On the defensive side of the field,sophomore Danny Pratte leadsthree returning players and three newcomers. Pratte started16 of 17 matches in the USI backfield as a freshman andhad four points on a pair of goals.Also returning from last year’s squad are senior PaulHutchens and juniors Justin Brotherton and NathanBower.Joining the USI defense in <strong>2009</strong> are freshmen Daniel Heltsley,Sam Brotherton, and Jacob Posey.Heltsley becomes an Eagle after spending a year outsideof soccer at Western Kentucky <strong>University</strong>. He was an All-District and All-Region performer at Bowling Green HighSchool prior to starting college at WKU. The redshirt freshmanalso led BGHS to a Kentucky State Championship in2006.lettered in soccer, basketball, and golf in his four years atAffton High School. He was second team All-State as asenior, while being named the AHS Most Valuable Playerthe last two seasons. Sam Brotherton also was a three-timeAll-Region player during his tenure at AHS.Posey comes to USI after earning All-Conference honorsin soccer as a senior at GibaultCatholic High School. The letterwinnerin soccer and basketballalso led GCHS in scoring with34 points on 13 goals and eightassists.Cadden will be battling threenew goalkeepers for playing timethis season. New to the squadare freshman Ben Dempsey, atransfer from the <strong>University</strong> ofEvansville, and freshmen JeffreyNeidlinger and Keenan Johnson.GOALKEEPERS:Between the posts, the Eaglesonly have one experienced goalkeeperin senior Brad Cadden.Cadden has seen action in sevenmatches the last three seasonswith three starts, accumulating arecord of 5-0-0 with a 0.48 goalsagainst average.Dempsey, who did not see action for the Purple Aces in2008, led Harrison High School to the Evansville CityChampionship in 2006 and was named All-District, All-City,and All-Conference prior to signing with the Aces.Johnson joins the Eagles after four years at Center GroveHigh. He was second team All-State in 2008 as well as thecounty Player of the Year the last two seasons. Johnsonalso was first team All-Conference in 2008 and secondteam All-Conference in 2007. <strong>2009</strong> Coaching StaffHead Coach Mat SantoroMat Santoro became the eighth head coach of the USI men's soccer program in January<strong>2009</strong>.Santoro came to USI from the <strong>University</strong> of Memphis where he was an assistant coachlast season. He assisted with all facets of the program during his only season with theTigers.Prior to Memphis, Santoro served as the women's soccer head coach at Davis and ElkinsCollege for four seasons. Under his leadership, the Senators set school records for overallwins, conference wins, goals scored, and All-Conference selections. He also directedDavis and Elkins to its first two winning seasons and produced the programs first All-American.He made the move to Davis and Elkins after spending four years as the men's assistant coach at Rowan <strong>University</strong>in New Jersey. While at Rowan, Santoro was the program's primary recruiter and was part of a staff thatled the Profs to the Division III Final Four in 2000.Santoro played collegiately for one season at the <strong>University</strong> of Maryland before transferring to Rowan. As aplayer at Rowan, he was named All-Conference three times, All-Region twice, and was a member of the 1990Division III National Championship team. Santoro played professionally in the United States for four years beforeentering the coaching ranks.Carl Carr, Assistant CoachCarl Carr is in his second season as an assistant coach at USI and his first under HeadCoach Mat Santoro after successfully making the transition from player to coach in 2008.He will assists Santoro in all facets of the program.Carr played two seasons for the Eagles, leading the team in scoring with 13 points on fivegoals and three assists in his final season.During his first season, Carr battled through injuries to play in 13 matches. He scored hisfirst goal as an Eagle in the win over Kentucky Wesleyan College.Carr joined the USI squad after transferring from Martin Methodist College (Pulaski, Tennessee).
