About <strong>the</strong> Authors<br />

Diana Oblinger is vice president for <strong>the</strong> EDUCAUSE teaching and learning<br />

initiatives and directs <strong>the</strong> National Learning Infrastructure Initiative (NLII).<br />

Previously, Oblinger served as <strong>the</strong> vice president for information resources<br />

and <strong>the</strong> chief information officer for <strong>the</strong> 16-campus University of North<br />

Carolina system and as a senior fellow for <strong>the</strong> EDUCAUSE Center for Applied<br />

Research (ECAR). She was <strong>the</strong> executive director of higher education for<br />

Microsoft Corporation and led <strong>the</strong> Institute for Academic Technology for IBM.<br />

Oblinger was on <strong>the</strong> faculty at Michigan State University and <strong>the</strong> University<br />

of Missouri–Columbia, where she also she served as an academic dean. She<br />

is a graduate of Iowa State University.<br />

James L. Oblinger is <strong>the</strong> chancellor of North Carolina State University,<br />

a research-extensive land-grant institution with 30,000 students and approximately<br />

2,200 full- and part-time faculty. Previously, he served as<br />

provost and executive vice chancellor, dean and executive director for<br />

agricultural programs of <strong>the</strong> College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and<br />

associate dean and director of academic programs at NC State. Oblinger<br />

is also a professor of food science and has held positions at <strong>the</strong> University<br />

of Missouri–Columbia and <strong>the</strong> University of Florida. Oblinger received his<br />

bachelor’s degree in bacteriology from DePauw University, his master’s<br />

in food technology from Iowa State University, and his doctorate in food<br />

technology from Iowa State University.<br />
